Ever since I've been on cpap in October, I wake up with a sore neck, shoulders and backache. Have any of you had problems with pain when waking up?
When I sleep on my side with my mask, I have to sleep with my head in a position that will keep the mask from falling off, on the edge of the pillow, and so perhaps my neck is in a bad position. I'm trying to find out if I need better neck support. I'm not accusing my cpap therapy for giving me aches, but perhaps if this is common, then I can find a way to deal with it by buying more support pillow for my shoulders.
also, maybe the cpap puts me to sleep so hard that i dont toss and turn and therefore my body gets stiff. And I have a tempurpedic mattress, but I'm waking up in pain so i have to sleep on my recliner (no pain when i wake up). I dont know what to do. I do often wake up in the same position as I fell asleep in.
Pain in Back & Shoulder Since using CPap
Re: Pain in Back & Shoulder Since using CPap
It is fairly common, especially for those who used to toss and turn all night! Making sure your neck and spine are aligned may help and some here like to sleep with a teddy bear or similar to keep the arm up, thus preventing the shoulder being pulled down. A body pillow is another idea.
But it sounds like your cpap therapy is working well, Congrats!

Yes. With me it was my hips.
Now that you are sleeping in the same position most of the night you really need to pay attention to your pillows and mattress. I had to get new pillow and a mattress cover.

With some nasal pillow masks when the seal is weakening, I wake up with stiff, sore neck and shoulder muscles. I feel like I am holding my head a certain way when I go to sleep. It is not a natural and relaxed way but I feel I have to "hold that positon" to keep the nasal pillows in. It's a signal to me to change the pillows or use my one of my other masks for a night or two.

Re: Pain in Back & Shoulder Since using CPap
Since you mentioned that you feel you have to sleep at the side of your pillow in order for your mask to hang over the side, I would highly encourage you to invest in a cpap pillow. There are several different kinds available. I can't recommend one since I haven't tried them, but I'm sure they would help you to sleep in a more natural position.
