Tempur-Pedic Mattress
Re: Tempur-Pedic Mattress
Tried a TP and did not like it for most of the variety of reasons mentioned (heat, firmness, etc).
Switched to a sleep number a couple of years ago and definitely am in love with it. Allows me and wife to tune bed differently and after I got diagnosed with OSA and went on CPAP is actually allowed me to make some adjustments to the bed that changed the way I slept and made the adjustment a bit easier.
BC (before Cpap) I was basically a side to side face sleeper, AC I am more of a side to side/back sleeper. My sleep number increased by about 10 in making this transition -- making the bed a wee bit more firm helped me adjust to sleeping on my back.
IMHO it would be well worth the free test drive they advertise.

Re: Tempur-Pedic Mattress
We finally broke down and got a Sleep Number bed last Thanksgiving. I absolutely love it. I do rest so much better with it. It was only after I got it that I finally stopped needing naps during the day. I have other issues besides OSA and getting unfragmented sleep was one of them. I would say that it cut my morning back pain easily by half or maybe a little more.Alshain wrote: During my sleep study I used a Sleep number and despite the hookup, I really liked the mattress. Haven't used it long term though.

Re: Tempur-Pedic Mattress
You may consider the following first before buying.
You must consider the foam density. Most tempurpedic mattress has a memory foam density of 5 lb. The problem with that is some people feel 5 lb foam density is too tough and firm, so other mattresses are introduced offering 4lb and even 3 lb density.
I would highly recommend buying a 4 lb density tempurpedic mattress as any lower than that is too soft and will not last very long. A 4 lb or 5 lb memory foam mattress can be expect to last up to 10 years and maybe even longer.
In fact, tempurpedic offers a 10 year warranty for all tempurpedic products. That goes to show how confident they are in their products.Recently, there has been word of even a 7 lb and 8 lb tempurpedic mattress though it is still experimental and not yet on the market.

Re: Tempur-Pedic Mattress
I am one that has the problem with it feeling too hot.
Prior to this mattress we had a latex mattress. I loved it. But when we replaced it about ten years ago I could not find latex that did not feel to firm. We sleep without a box spring, on a platform bed, so mattresses tend to feel a bit firmer on that surface.
The current temperpedic at 10 years old is holding up fairly well. I have been thinking of getting a new mattress.

My only advice would be to go to a King sized bed. The extra room does something magical to your sleeping comfort and trust me, you'll never go back. Not to mention giving more room for hose issues and partners, etc.

Re: Tempur-Pedic Mattress
Especially if you add a few doxies. My wife and I have had a king sized Tempur-Pedic mattress for four or five years. We all love it. Actually it is a good thing that it sinks as "The Princess" sleeps between my arm and my chest. When I was getting up a few times a night before CPAP, I would have to crawl over her. If the mattress didn't sink, she would have been squashed, not that it ever woke her up. My wife has back problems and she says this is the best mattress she has ever had. Of course everybody likes different mattresses. Not to mention giving more room for hose issues and partners, etc

Re: Tempur-Pedic Mattress
I bought my TP bed in the mid-90s and have no complaints. It still looks and performs like it did the first night I slept on it. If it retains body heat, it's news to me. Most comfortable mattress I've ever had, and I plan to sleep on a TP for the rest of my life. If/when this mattress poops out on me (no signs of that yet, after 15+ years), I plan to buy one of the adjustable models.
As an aside, one of the other things I like about the TP mattress is it doesn't need to be turned, ever. And that's a good thing, 'cause they're HEAVY.

Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Re: Tempur-Pedic Mattress
Love my tempurpedic! I have one from the Tempur HD line. I haven't noticed being hotter at night with this bed but have noticed how comforting it is. I sleep like a baby. When I have some extra money I'm going to spring for the Ergo frame. Years ago some friends were returning theirs and I tried it. I got stuck in it...they've come a long way since then with different levels of support. It was definitely worth the cost to me. I spend (if lucky) 8 hours a day in my bed and have learned a lot about the importance of restorative sleep through my diagnosis with SA. I can justify the cost knowing it makes a difference. If you try it and don't like it, let them take it back.
