I have been worried about what happens during power outages because I seal my mouth to stop mouth leaks.
It seems to me that this leads to a real danger of suffocating when the machine stops because you can re-breath your exhaled air which is high in carbon dioxide. This can make you pass out and with no source of air you die.
For this reason full face masks include a "Non-re-breathing" device which allows access to fresh air in the event of pressure failure from the machine. But if you use a nasal mask and seal your mouth you don't have access to fresh air.
Does this make sense to anyone else, or am I being overly concerned?
So I rigged up an uninterruptable power supply using a deep cycle AGM 55 Amp-hour battery that is trickle charged by a power supply that also powers the CPAP with 12 volts. In the event of a loss of power, it transfer the battery to the CPAP with absolutely no interruption. The battery can last about four days and can be recharged by the jumping with an automobile.
