ABSM Creating New Sleep Technologist Certification Exam
According to a letter from American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) president, Nathaniel F. Watson, MD, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) board of directors has voted to create a certification exam for sleep technologists.
The letter, addressed to Janice East, RPSGT, REEGT, president of the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), states that the exam will be administered by the ABSM. The letter does not include information about a timeline for development of the exam. The BRPT has acknowledged receipt of the letter and will be communicating with credential holders this week about the ABSM’s plans.

"Can patients change their own settings?" No, the prescription is not be deviated from. Also the machines are locked down so they can't.
"Should a patient be given an Autoset machine is the prescription is for CPAP?" No, automatic machines can be dangerous and the automatic modes can not be trusted.
"What is a central apnea?" Something that happens in the middle of the night.
