Re: Dr Krakow--Have you had appt/consult with him?
No, but have read his book several times.
In my mind he's the best out there.
If you did go to him I would love to hear how it went.

So is Dr. Barbara Phillips in Lexington, Ky.
And Dr. Kasey Li in California.
And probably many, many more -- "bests", "goods" and...well, the whole gamut.
Depends on what a particular person's SDB (sleep disordered breathing) or just "sleep" in general problems are. And where any one particular sleep doctor's diagnosis and treatment strengths lie.

Re: Dr Krakow--Have you had appt/consult with him?
I've been interested in Dr. Krakow's work for the better part of the past year. I really enjoyed the Park interview of a couple of months ago.
Dr. Krakow has been doing a lot of innovative and interesting studies at his Albuquerque sleep lab, especially in relation to nightmare treatment
and post traumatic stress syndrome treatment.
Due to his work and reading about his conclusions in regard to OSA and cpap therapy, I was inspired to talk to my sleep doc about his work.
My doctor disagreed somewhat with a few of his arguments, but otherwise thought he did a lot of wonderful work. My doc finally said that if I thought
a bipap would work better for me, he would set up a sleep study for that purpose. I did so the other night, but I haven't seen the results yet. (I had
tried a bipap for a 2-week trial period, but then had to return it) I am looking forward to getting my permanent bipap (or possibly SV Advanced) machine.
So I owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Krakow for my progress toward keeping my apnea under control. I think he is on the forefront of innovative methods
and endeavors toward finding a solution to this pesky problem.
I've tried the MAD device and that didn't do the job for me. (I still use it about 30% of the time I'm asleep). Also, I recently applied to become a participant
in the studies soon to be conducted on the Imthera Implants. (they have called me twice; unfortunately, I missed both calls; maybe next time).
I'll keep you informed. (I'm determined to beat this thing, or die trying)
Cheers,
Jay

I understand that it helps if you're a golfer:
As found at: http://sleep.med.harvard.edu/ext/tmanua ... Health.htm (last line on page)Last, but not least, Dr. Krakow remains convinced that the relationship between sleep and golf is a very under-explored area of research that he personally intends to examine for years to come.

Yes, of course she is; her avatar is, after all, wearing long sleeves on a sunny day in that picture.Banned wrote:Thank you jnk, but if that avatar is really secret agent girl, she's HOT!jnk wrote: Oh, and nice avatar!
But if memory serves, I seem to recall the existence of a secret agent boy out there somewhere, and if he monitors her threads, well, you may need to watch your back for a guy in a trench coat.

Re: Dr Krakow--Have you had appt/consult with him?
Nope...not unless the person happens to have "Complex Sleep Apnea." Whole other ballgame.secret agent girl wrote:rested gal, do you know of any "bests" or "very goods" that have specialized in people asymptomatic before xpap use and feeling terrible after?
I do know this... (or think I do, could be wrong! )... some people even with very severe obstructive sleep apnea think they were asymptomatic "before CPAP", but perhaps were so used to how they felt, they regarded it as "normal." They didn't know there was any "better" way to feel.
Some -- not necessarily you, Secret Agent Girl -- may have actually have had symptoms that didn't seem like "symptoms" to them. They'd felt however they felt for so much of their life, it was normal to them. And they were able to work and live their lives "normally" despite the tiny warning signs they were so used to, they didn't notice...or regarded as "normal."
I didn't have any problem at all functioning in life. However, I used to get drowsy driving long stretches of interstate highway. I thought that was normal. I assumed, "Well, everyone gets a little sleepy driving on long boring stretches of interstate, don't they? That's normal. 'Five miles to the next Rest Area'...GOOD!"
I found out (after taking to CPAP like a duck to water, or rather a bird to air) that my drowsiness when driving was NOT really "normal." Can drive all day and half a night now with no drowsiness whatsoever.
When it comes right down to it, "CPAP" is not the easiest therapy in the world to "do." It's not exactly natural to try to sleep while wearing a mask on one's face. The disruptions caused by cpap equipment issues (mainly mask issues) can leave a person feeling worn out, sleepy, tired, fatigued...for the first time ever if they were "asymptomatic" before. Or feeling worse even if they did feel sleepy or tired before.
Takes some getting used to for many people, and quite a bit of determination to stick with it for the days, weeks, months it might take to get comfortable enough with all this "stuff" to be able to sleep well. Thankfully, this forum can help with many of the "comfort" issues to get most people to where they can sleep well enough to find out if there really are benefits. And maybe long enough to find out if their previous "asymptomatic" life really was normal...or if it just seemed that way because they didn't have the extreme exhaustion or sleepiness during the day that quite a few people report here.

Why ask me? You already told her what to do.jnk wrote:Yep, Banned. I, too, thought of NotMuffy (aka SAG).Banned wrote:SAG. Oh, and nice avatar!
However, I have a question (what a surprise)(also, what a surprise that I say "what a surprise"):
What meanings would those be?secret agent girl wrote:Picking an avatar is a very "projective" act and certainly means something about the person who selected it. Trouble is, you have to know the meanings the person attaches to the image to know what it says about them.
Also, what was the intent of the "Apology" thread?
