Vibration question from a newbie

Post by Pea » Wed Jan 12, 2011 5:38 pm

Hello all, I am new to the CPAP world .... I got my CPAP machine right after Thanksgiving. I had the nasal pillows, but just took them back last week and got a face mask. The nasal pillows were rubbing my nose raw and I was still snoring as well as not feeling as rested as I should with using a CPAP machine.
My question is, since getting the mask, my fiance' says he can not "hear" my snoring any more, which is good, but he can "feel" it..... he says it's hard to explain when I ask him about it, but says that it's as if I snore "on the inside now". He says I vibrate the whole bed so badly that he can't sleep and goes to the couch. I asked if it could be the mask leaking or noise/vibration from the machine or mask/tubing, but he's checked and it's not. He says it's me. Has anyone else had this problem? I go back in 2 weeks for a check up, and of course, will mention it there, but I was curious if I'm the only one this has happened to. I'm tired of running him off to the sofa!

For nose soreness we use Lanisoh lanolin oinment. This is found in the section with baby supplies and nursing mothers use it to heal sore cracked nipples. You can also find the generic brand at CVS pharmacy.

I would share that you are not feeling well still with you doctor. You many need a pressure adjustment.

I use nasal pillows and I did have sore nose to begin with. This group was so wonderful in giving me tips to help me get past that.

Welcome! Can you post your machine/mask and pressure settings, etc, go to User Control Panel, Profile, Edit Equipment in Text so we can help. Sounds like you may be leaking or mask is not fitting properly.

It's possible that you are snoring in the FF mask. The sound is muffled, but the vibration isn't. Or could it be a leak around the seal late at night when you are not aware of it (some people call these "face farts" because of the vibratory sound they produce)?

In any case, HOPEFULLY you have a data capable machine so your doctor can download your data and see what might be going on. If you are still snoring, chances are the pressure needs adjusting. With data, your doctor will be able to tell if the pressure is adequate or not. Otherwise, his guess is as good as ours (and we are blind and deaf to what might be going on--just making guesses).

As for the nasal pillows, if they were "rubbing your nose raw" it sounds like they were not fit correctly. If you ever want to give them another go, see the Swift FX fitting Guide in my signature. However, if you were still snoring with them, you may have been mouth breathing, and they won't work unless you can keep your mouth closed.

It does sound as if either you are leaking or your pressure just isn't high enuff. In either case I would call the DME to let them know and would not wait the 2 weeks.
