The large headgear made what was unusable a pleasure to use for me. Using a small mask with large headgear. Love the Quattro FX.

ditto.

For all the folks having strap length issues, get the large headgear.

I am newly diagnosed and still within my 30 day trial period on the mask so I tried the new Quattro FX and was very hopeful. Unfortunately I had two issues that I couldn't overcome - 1) Although I had a small mask and the fit was tight enough to leave marks, I could NOT get a good seal at the top of my nose after trying for several nights. 2) The second issue was the placement of the straps on the headgear - the lower strap went right across my ear and I couldn't get a comfortable fit. So far the Quattro Full Face has worked the best.

I can't picture how the lower strap would go across your ear. There's a strap that goes on the top of your head (imagine a line over the top of your head going from ear to ear), then there is one that goes across the upper back part of your head, and one that goes across close to your neck.

Some people are finding that loosening the straps makes for a better seal against leaks than tightening it. I am still trying to figure out what will work for me.

I receieved my large sized headgear on Friday. As soon as i connected it up and put the mask on I just knew that it was the best size for me. The mask felt much more comfortable after i made the adjustments i needed. And i got a flat leak line for the past two nights

I've never had to buy a different size headgear with any Resmed medium sized mask before. I think they should try and keep the sizing consistent, but then again Resmed stock has stoping trending upwards since last May.

I've used in for two nights now and like it. This is my first venture using a full face mask. to be honest, it's actually pretty comfortable and easy to use. I've been using the Resmed nasal mask and started having to use a chin strap. That's not work well at all. So, I was in the store buying a new chin strap and the lady showed me the Quattro fx. I went home and had another lousy night's sleep and went back and bought it. I'll update the group if anything changes to the negative.

There's a trick to putting it on and here's the link (see below) -- look for Quattro fx they break it down pretty good and show how to put it on properly. I noticed a couple of posting that didn't follow this method.

DoriC wrote:Our DME must be reading this forum. She was soooo nice! She called today to set up an appt for Monday to bring us the FX in all 3sizes to try and she'll also bring our UMFF. She said we have up to 30days to try the FX and if we don't like it we can return it and if we want to keep it we can return the unopened UM. I asked her about the responses she's getting from patients and she replied "about 50/50". Unless this FX really does the job without any problems we'll be happy with our UMFF. I'll let you know.
UPDATE!! So...our RT's schedule changed and had a day off so she sent out another RT. Well, he brought the Swift FX and the original Quattro. When I told him I had asked for the new Quattro FX he said he never heard of it and thought I was mistaken. He also sort of "accused" me of really ordering the regular Quattro. So we were left with nothing and he said he'd have to look into it and "get back to me" and that Mike would have to "suffer" for another night. I think he thought we were a new case. He left quickly before I could say another word! So I called the RT Supervisor and asked him to read back to me the order our regular RT had placed and there it was in black & white, Quattro FX in 3 sizes and UMFF in Medium. He apologized profusely and he will come out personally tomorrow. I'm sorry if I made trouble for the RT but he certainly wasn't doing his job. Oh, when I asked to see the order as written he told me he left it back at the office. Of course all this gave my darling hubby something to crow about because he's been saying all along he didn't want to try a new mask anyway, he loves his old "girlfriend" just the way she is!

I had a problem with the short straps so I got the large headgear. It is working out very well the past few nights.

As for keeping the mask tight or loose; when I first got the mask I kept it tight but had a lot of leaks. After reading some of the reviews here, I loosened up the straps and found that worked. I tightened them just enough so the mask is a little more snug than when mask just sits on my face. When I put it on at night, I lay down with the headgear over my head but with the lower straps not connected. I do the swing and seal, then connect the lower straps. When the machine turns on, I get a blast of air that tries to shoot the mask off my face, I can feel it pushing away. The straps are only tight enough to keep it anchored. Some nights I've had to try it two or three times because I will immediately get a leak (I keep starting the swing too high and get eye leaks), but once it's right, I get a good seal.

This is my opinion, but I don't recommend tightening the straps to the point of getting sores. I did that with my first mask and ended up with a serious infection on the bridge of my nose.

The RT brought the Quattro FX Medium this morning, what a pretty little thing! The design is a great idea but some of the others looked great too?? I wonder if any of the design team sleeps with them? She measured Mike with the thingy and he was a perfect Med. This was her first fitting with the FX but she thinks it will be a favorite of hers to recommend. Mike took an hour nap with it after she left and I must say it went on perfectly with the first "swing",no leaks and was so quiet I could hardly hear it. He really slept soundly and peacefully and seemed much more rested than usual when he awoke and no marks. I was surprised he said he felt good too. Of course this was in his recliner so the real story will begin when he sleeps with it tonight in bed. I'm not sure about the Medium headgear, there's very little room for adjustment on top and bottom straps if I needed to make them looser, especially the top is at the end of the velcro. If that's a problem I will ask the DME for the large headgear. I guess they do stretch after awhile. Will keep you posted.

Dori,

I highly recommend getting the large headgear. In my case the upper straps on the medium were so short there was no hope of them streching to the desired length. The headgear should fit immediately. The straps on the large are much more generous.

Just wondering, would the DME exchange just the headgear or would I have to purchase the Large headgear out of pocket?

I would THINK the DME would switch the headgear, but I don't really know.

Disaster! Why are DMEs so poorly trained?? First one didn't bring the right mask, this one admitted she never saw this mask before and fitted it wrong at the top of the bridge and never even looked at the diagram. When I asked her to try measuring it lower she got snippy and called me "Maam"!! And wouldn't even try it although I said I had done extensive research on it. She only brought the medium even though the order called for her to bring all 3 sizes plus a new UMFF in case neither of the FX fit. She also forgot the white disposable filters I asked for and instead of apologizing she said if I didn't have pets I didn't really need the white ones. Really, Isn't the customer the one who knows what she's entitled to. We tried the FX last night in bed, completely different than the recliner! I could tell it was too big, the straps too short but I got it to stop leaking finally, but after about an hour when he fell asleep and turned over the mask rode up over his eyes and the bottom was in his mouth, no way to adjust with the short straps, so I had to put his old UM mask on him while he was half asleep and neither of us was in the mood for this! I called first thing this morning to the Supervisor and read the riot act, doesn't he train his RTs on new masks before he sends them out to patients, why are they so rude and condescending, blah, blah!! I suggested and I refused to have another untrained RT come to the house again so I made an appt to go to the office today so he could do the fitting personally until I'm satisfied with the outcome. He will try the large headgear with the FX Small if "I" feel it is necessary and anything else I want to try . He will also send me home with a new UMFF so I can have it on hand if the FX doesn't work out. Don't know how he's going to work with insurance but who cares at this point! Why should this be so hard! I'm really such a "sweet old gal" but my boiling point is "incompetence". I'm from the old school where everybody did their job and did it well or else ! I'm sure the Supervisor is looking forward to seeing me this afternoon! Will let you know.
