I have become a mask slut

Post by Janknitz » Fri Jan 07, 2011 3:48 pm

I sleep around!

I used to be a dedicated nasal pillow user, primarily the Swfit FX. Occasionally I would mix things up a bit a Swift LT.

But this recent URI has thrown me for a loop. During the worst of it, I could not sleep with a nasal pillow mask because of nasal congestion and coughing. I didn't get along with other masks, but I was forced to figure out how to wear my Quattro since that's the only way I could get ANY sleep. I came up with a fitting technique that seems to work really well (see my signature line below) and actually got quite comfy with the Quattro.

I thought it would only be for a few nights until I could get cleared up enough to go back to my beloved nasal pillows, but to my surprise I still cannot tolerate them. The tissues in and around my nose are still quite swollen and irritated and the nasal pillows are actually painful right now. I have had to re-start doing saline spray and using Lanisoh to soothe the sore tissues and heal everything up.

Meanwhile, I got tired of the Quattro because even well-fit it leaks often. I decided to apply the same fitting technique to a Mirage Micro, and viola! I can wear that too, without tearing up my nose. It's quite comfy, except that the bottom strap tends to ride up and fold my earlobe. I have to figure out a solution to that.

So now I have 4 masks that I can wear. I can sleep with whichever one sounds good when I go to bed--they are all set up and ready to go. It feels a bit like polygamy , but it's nice to have so many choices.

But do they expect you to pay for their meals?

Sure! You always buy 'em dinner first....

(Some of us have to get our mask drunk before it will sleep with us!)

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...

Well with only 4, I'd have to say you are a relative "mask virgin".

Keeping a positive attitude won't solve all your problems. You will, however, annoy enough people to make it worth your while.

Naw, I've slept with many more. These are just my favorites. Sort of like Hugh Hefner and those "Girls Next door".

Any landing you walk away from is a good one; if you don't break your airplane it's excellent.

I can so relate to this thread! I have an underbed box filled with masks that "didn't work out" for one reason or another. I usually use a nasal pillows mask (most often the AEIOMed Headrest), but I have been known to keep company with full-face and nasal masks as well. I periodically go through my box and try them again. Variety can be good when it comes to masks!
