Getting my new ResMed S9 autoset tomorrow!!

Post by sleeplessinaz » Tue Dec 28, 2010 3:47 pm

Hi there---I finally got approval from Cigna to get an upgraded machine. Apria called me today and set me up for an appointment for tomorrow to get my new ResMed S9 autoset machine. I am so excited I can hardly wait!! LOL! I wanted to see if there is anything I should ask them for while I am there? I will be getting the new humidifier too as that is on my script. Does that climate line hose come with the machine or will the insurance pay for that for me as well?

I have not had a new machine since I got my RS8 Elite 2 1/2 years ago. The setting the doctor ordered was a setting of 4 to 10 on the RS9 Auto. I am hoping to get less arousals with the auto ---and get better sleep.

If anyone has any good questions that I should ask them or anything --please let me know so I am armed with it when I go---:)

thanks all.
Carrie

Never trust a DME. Verify that the machine is actually a S9 Autoset and not a "S9 Escape Auto" or another substitute. Don't pay attention to the paperwork, look at the actual device. Their response may be "Escape Auto" is newer machine or upgrade, it is an Autoset with all the data options stripped out. It cost your DME more and they prefer to not give it out. Tell them your doctor wanted you to be able to provide detailed data upon request.

ClimateLine hose is a common since option to include with a humidifier, but the DME will try to get by with another hose. May want to call your DME or doctor and verify that the script included "heated hose" or something similar.

There are reasons we don't trust them.

I'm jealous! I ordered mine 2 weeks ago and they still haven't gotten one in. As of last Thursday, they hadn't even sent the PO to the manufacturer even though they had approval from my insurance a week prior. I told them if they don't have it by Friday, I'm calling another DME.

With Lincare (my DME), I had to have the doctor write the script for "Auto", "12-20 Pressure", "Heated Humidifier" and "Heated Hose" in order to get the full setup. You should be able to ask Apria ahead of time to save yourself a trip. Half the reason I went with the machine I did is because of the heated hose.

Another thing I would do is make absolute sure that the machine is brand spanking new. The last time I got a machine, about a month after getting it, I finally sat down and got into the menu and found the total hours on it. It had approximately 3,000 hours on it before I got it.

Good luck with the new machine!

wow--Cybergoon--had not thought of making sure it was a new machine!!! --I will be sure to ask them to show me the zero hours before I leave the place!! Good idea!!

STLMARK--thanks for that tip too--never thought that they would not give me the RS9 Auto--I will be sure to look at the machine to be sure it does not say "escape" on it--thanks for mentioning that. The script doesn't say heated hose--but I am gonna try and get one out of them tomorrow anyways. I have good insurance--it pays 100%.

sleeplessinaz,

As a quick double check to make sure that you've got an S9 AutoSet, ask them to show you how to check the detailed Sleep Quality Menu. And then make sure they've set Sleep Quality to ON not Usage: If you only see Usage hours when you press the Info button and the Double Check mark button for the magic three buttons, have them change the setting right then and there. And if they can't or won't, ask them why not.

Depending on how they ordered it, about the only way to tell it is an autoset is by looking at the SKU # on the back.

On the main unit there should be an SKU of 36005, 36015 (this is the SKU for the unit, humidifier, and I assume just a regular hose) or possibly SKU 36025 (this is the SKU for the unit, humidifier, and climateline tubing).

What you don't want to see is an SKU of 36001, 36011, or 36021. These are all for S9 Escape models with the same descriptions as above. Difference is in the data gathering/reporting options that are available to the patient and the doctor.

Using the SKU was the only way I could tell what model I had as the exterior appearance of the unit does not indicate "autoset", "escape" or "elite" (neither is it on the manufacturer's label on the back of the machine).

Good luck tomorrow!

Mike

Get the climate line hose. The different in price between the slimline and climate line is like $25. You will love the climateline hose. I know I love mine.

I never thought to check my machine. Though mine is fully data capable. I have been checking my data. I think its shameful that DMEs are doing bait and switch!! There is a law against that!!!

After reading about all the horror stories about dealing with DMEs I can hardly believe my good fortune at how properly I was treated in spite of my utter lack of knowledge and naivety about CPAPs. My doc ordered the S9 autoset Elite with climate line hose and the DME, who specializes in CPAP (the company name is CPAP Now!) brought me that machine in new condition. Maybe the doc ordered this because he essentially continued the titration study during the first 4 weeks I had the machine. I had to go back for a checkup, with the machine in hand, at 4 weeks. He then changed it from APAP mode to CPAP mode.

Congratulations on the new machine. Be sure to take a look at our in depth video about the S9 series. There are a lot of things in the video that the DME might not tell you.

Thanks everyone for all your great ideas!!! Esp--mbkjad---with giving me all the SKU numbers. I did not realize the machine itself doesn't have written on it which model it it. I have all the numbers written down LOL!

Apria is coming to my house to deliver and set up--so I will let you know how it goes. All has gone smoothly so I feel wierd to be all suspicious of them --LOL!

I just got an S9 Autoset last week and it says "Autoset" on the cover. But as I was reading this thread, I did go check the sku # and the hours.
I am using Apria and have not had any problems, though I didn't and still have not read the 3-4 pages of fine print on the back of the agreement. I dropped off my paperwork on Wednesday and picked up my machine on Friday. He spent about an hour and a half going over the machine with me and fitting my mask. You have done your homework so I don't think you will have any problems that you won't see coming.

Hi LIZISTIRED----glad to hear all went well with Apria. We are the lucky ones I guess that have had great experiences with them. I hope you like that RS9 Autoset? Did you by chance get the heated Climateline hose from them as well?
