I was without my cpap yesterday :(

Post by Mary T » Sat Dec 25, 2010 2:47 pm

I went to family's house for christmas about 33 miles away, and I had to stay overnight without my cpap. I was so worried! but as you can see, I survived. I don't know if I was snoring or having apneas, but I sure kept waking up every hour. I had a very bad sleep. I came home this morning and slept on my recliner. I was very worried about going to sleep without it, but then thought I had no choice but to be there without it last night.

Have you ever gone a day without cpap because of being in some kind of place you didn't know you'd be? What can we do if we find ourselves in a place like that without our cpap stuff?

I take it with me if there is the possibility of overnighting.
When I am working again I hope to get a small dumb travel version I can keep in an over nite bag. Kind of like keeping your birth control pills in your handbag when I was much younger - always be prepared to spend the night with someone.

Hi,

33 miles is only a 30 to 45 minute trip. I would have made that trip and used my CPAP, or simply went without sleep until I could get back to my machine. My breathing is so bad that I am not willing to risk sleeping without the machine.

it was snowing and very late, and they were afraid of me driving. I knew I could make it, but they insisted. so i caved in

During the night, I knew I should have been more assertive. I could have had a serious apnea because I caved in.

---or you could have been in a serious accident on the road!

I think I would have chosen to stay and sleep in a recliner or elevate the bed somehow.

It's a catch 22 but I think you were right to stay.
