OT: Blood Pressure Monitor
Years ago, about 10 years ago, possibly as much as 14 years ago I bought a Mabis digital Blood Pressure Monitor. Model 04-206-001. I have been very pleased w/it w/absolutley no complaints or problems until this morning. It builds up to about 160-170 diastolic and then falls flat on its face and displays an Error 3 message.
After changing batteries twice I called Mabis. The Rep was very pleasant and courteous and - that BP monitor has a lifetime guarantee. Send Mabis my name and address and BP monitor model number along w/a FIVE dollar check or money order and they will replace it w/a new, current, equivalent model!!!!!! Say what? Lifetime guarantee?? I thought they went out w/Noah's ark and the great flood!
Hurrah for Mabis!!!

Never heard of them, glad to hear they take care of bussiness, few do nowdays. I've had two in 13 years, this last one is great Omron Auto, still going after many years, not hard on batteries either, haven't used it much but now use it daily. I have found that having to pump the cuff up, raises my BP, so the auto is easyer on you.

I was looking online and it seemed like most of the digital home BP monitors had the bulb you had to squeeze to pump the sleeve up. My husband's original BP monitor was like that. Well, still is. We still have it. But virtually never use it. My hand wears out long before I get the sleeve pumped up to the necessary starting pressure. Anyway, SEMedical has both Omron and Mabis BP monitors. My sleep doctor uses an Omron wrist BP monitor for office visits. My family doctor uses an Omron nebulizer in his office. So I take it Omron is a fairly good brand. Both of them use the Nonin Oximeter in their offices.

Re: OT: Blood Pressure Monitor
Our school health aide has a Mabis blood pressure monitor.
My blood pressure for the last week has been all over the place. It started last Friday -- at least that was when my aides convinced me to go and have it taken by the school health aide. It was 252/122. I called the doctor and she instructed me to take another bp pill (I had a couple in my desk just in case I forget in the morning). I did and after school went in to see her. It was down to 150/8x. It has been up and down all week. I am going back in next Monday to see the doctor. She has upped my bp meds and wants to see if it will stablize it.
I went and purchased a Homedics blood pressure monitor -- got it at Big Lots for half what WalMart wanted for one. Not sure how good it is though.

Re: OT: Blood Pressure Monitor
I have the walmart purchased omron ReliOn 741CREL - well actually I have 2 of them - first one bought in fall 2000 - second one a couple years ago
when I bought the first one the pharmacist at WM convinced me why buy it over buying one from another drug store - it was cheaper, it used an adapter so batteries not needed (actually never used it with batteries yet), and the first one had a second larger cuff you could get "free" or for the cost of a stamp
I am still using the first one - second one is in the cupboard somewhere but I am using the cuff now this past few months from the second one

Wow, Slinky, you did better than I would have. Thanks for the reminder to not nay-say myself into not even making that call. There's you an unexpected Christmas present. Will the replacement also have a lifetime guarantee?

You can purchase from a large selection of blood pressure monitors at CPAP.com!
Re: OT: Blood Pressure Monitor
I haven't the slightest idea what type of guarantee the new one will have. Heck, the use we got out of the first one, it sure didn't owe us anything! If the replacement lasts as long, even if no guarantee whatsoever, I figure we've came out ahead of the game.
I noticed when searching BP monitors at SEMedical that the standard cuff seems to be 9"-13" and larger cuffs are available that go up to 17". In the pre-Civil War era the southern belles used corsets to strive for an 18" waist. Can you imagine an arm 17"??? No wonder so many of the southern belles tended to faint!!!!

Re: OT: Blood Pressure Monitor
I'm happy with my Walgreens Homemedics blood pressure machine. I think I payed 40 bucks for it a couple years ago. I have been taking the machine to work with me to monitor my pressure the last few weeks since my pressure has been unacceptably high lately. The Doctor adding another pill to help get it under control and I am taking other steps to help lower my pressure such as a CPAP titration , exercising and trying very hard to cut the salt out of my life.
