The following is a direct quote from an e-mail I received on June 14th from the "service" group at Respironics:

"This software was not designed for patient use."

I don't know what else I can say to get the point across.....THEY don't want YOU using this software!
They've had a very cozy relationship going with the DMEs and the medical professionals.......and WE'RE screwing it up! (HOORAY for US!)

If you think they're providing these updates for the end users (us), you're dreaming.

This is not to say that I don't think we should download the updates.....I'm just saying that they were NOT intended for US.
So, don't be too surprised if someday the site is either moved or there's a password lock on it.....that'll only work if you're a registered DME or medical professional. I certainly hope not!

Why do they sell it on CPAP.COM if they did not intend for "us" to buy it?

I don't think Respironics cares if we buy the SW. They will happily take our money (through cpap.com). What they say is that they will not sell it directly to, or support the individual user.

[quote="yardbird"]and THAT... if anything.. could be a moral issue. Cpap.com took good care of me. They're good people... every single one I spoke to. And here we are on a message board THEY provide, talking about how to get something for free... that they sell.

My intention has always been to buy the software at some point in the next few months when money isn't so tight. And to be honest, that's still my intention.

Also, you'll notice Titrator was the second poster on this thread so cpap.com obviously doesn't have a problem with it.

I was inquiring on how to get Derek's MyEncore V 1.5b. I do not take a position on this thread because I am a licensed user of the software. I do not speak for cpap.com on this matter.

Regards,

Titrator

I'm a licensed user of the software too because I purchased it from Cpap. I'm not an employee of Cpap but I still take a stand (realizing you can't). I would take the free version that is offered along with the card reader from 2factors and pocket over $168.20, if I had the option of doing it again. That's not really a decision and it's perfectly legal. Nothing wrong with saving money legally. Five or Ten dollars may be different but not over $100! If you go in a store and they have two identical items, one is $139 and one is $30, exactly the same, same manufacturer, some would buy the one for $139? I guess there are all kinds.

I confess: that's what I did, and I'm feeling reaally good about it.

After the hullabaloo some have created here and the inquiry to Respironics questioning their wisdom in offering this 1.5v at no charge, I think you can count on it.

Who would have ever thought we'd do ourselves in. Too bad.

Ted,
I have now deleted that sentence from my original post. My apologies!

Congratulations Jerry69, you are one of the fortunate ones who saw the deal and acted on it before purchasing. To bad more of us didn't know it in time. When I bought the 1.4, the new 1.5 wasn't available. When I did upgrade, I didn't even realize it was a full version until I read it here. I did save from $1569 down to $1424, $145 savings for the Bipap Auto. To bad I didn't wait to get the software. I did order another card reader from 2factors, took about 10 days. Now I can run it on two computers without having to go through my network.

Did we ever hear from our naysayers on this that said they were going to call Respironics? Well, is it supposed to be free, or isn't it?

This is just a dumb mistake on their part. Since they don't market directly to us, they just never considered the implications here. Hard to believe.

Unfortunately as a paying user of the software, now I wonder what hoops they will make us jump through for future updates -- that's the problem.

Emailed them from 3 different accounts to 3 different accounts within their company. No response.

Do what you feel is right and I'll do the same.
