Good morning,
I just finished my second night with my APAP. I was excited when I picked up my machine to see that I got to use a nasal pillow mask rather than a regular one that I had to use in my sleep study. It is a lot less cumbersome and doesn't leave a red mark on my face that lasts for a couple of days like the other one did. The problem is that I'm afraid it's not working. I'm still waking up a few times that I remember and I heard myself snore at least once. I thought CPAPs/APAPs were supposed to prevent snoring.

I meant to say "comfortable but may not be working" in the title.

Hi epichic
The machine is to prevent apneas, not snoring, although it often does this.
If you register with your machine details, then Forum members can better help you. You can also edit your posts when you have registered, but not before.
What was your AHi reading for the night. That is what tells you whether the treatment is working or not. And do you know your pressure, this often needs fine tuning.
And one night only cannot tell us too much, it is continuing trends that we look out for.
So it may be that your treatment is working well, but you need to check the data to see if it is. As you have an Apap machine, I guess you will have access to basic data about your night.
cheers

You may be breathing through your mouth instead of your nose part of the time. It wouldn't show up as a leak, but your AHI numbers would be higher. Do you use a chinstrap or tape for your mouth?

Hi epichic, We started the same day!epichic wrote:I just finished my second night with my APAP. I was excited when I picked up my machine to see that I got to use a nasal pillow mask rather than a regular one that I had to use in my sleep study.
I'm suprised that you got a different mask than you wore during the titration... or did you wear both. I tried the mask and never got to sleep with it on so I asked to switch to the fx and went right to sleep. I don't think I ever sleep with my mouth open unless my sinuses are completly congested.
It took awhile to get used to it the first night, but last night it was no trouble at all. I remember taking it off once when the pressure was bothering me, but I put it right back on. Another time I awoke to find it laying neatly ocross by chest.
I wake up occasionally but feel better already. Must be getting some REM & O2.

Re: Second night with APAP-comfortable may not be working
Thanks everyone for your comments. I will register later on today with my machine specifics. I haven't been able to figure out so far how to access detailed data off the machine. The instruction manual doesn't seem to say anything about this. Maybe there is another manual I'm missing somewhere. Do you have to purchase a program to be able to download the data from the SD card? I have a ResMed S9 machine. In my sleep study, I didn't have any apneas but rather "respiratory related arousals" where I was waking up because of my snoring. My RDI on my CPAP prescription was 13/hour. From what I've read, this is relatively low so I guess whatever I have is fairly mild. I believe the pressure on the machine is set on the 4-10 range. I was only tested with one full face mask (ResMed Mirage micro nasal). The person at the health equipment store said those masks are used a lot of times at sleep labs because they are cheaper but they aren't necessarily the best. I am happy that the machine seems pretty easy to use and care for and that I'm able to sleep.

ok, I registered and added my machine and mask specs.
