It's not worth the trouble to try to reinvent the wheel. I'm not a math whiz, but with the number of wires involved you will have way more than 36 wiring options. I've played that game before on a GMC auto trans, with no success, it's easyier to build a "A" Bomb. You would still need the software to read the serial port. If you had the pin outs for the cable you could make it, but guessing with the posabilty of making errors in wiring make it a useless task, just use the dt-3500 to read the card. Jim

Thank you for the concern. As I said earlier, now that I see how little data it would give me, I believe it is not worth trying; certainly not paying the $70+ to obtain the DT-3500 reader. And, by the way, the total combinations of connecting two sets with X and Y endpoints, respectively, is (X*(Y-1))/2, which in this case is (9*8)/2=36, and it would be even less as the wires of an EIA-RS-232-C have special meanings and some can be readily identified (e.g., ground). But that is irrelevant now. Thanks, anyway.
