I'm 63 and started cpap 10/15/2012. Wish I would've started 20 years earlier.

I found out that I had Sleep Apnea when I confronted my doctor about my embarassing bet-wetting problem still into my late teens. He suggested a sleep study and I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea and was put on the REMstar and sleep at a 12 currently. My problem was solved instantaneously. Turns out my body was shutting down to get the required sleep it needed because of how little I was breathing in my sleep. So my body was basically more concerned with keeping oxygen to my system than worrying about holding my bladder. I wonder, has anyone else had this problem before they started using a CPAP? Just curious.
I didn't have the bed wetting part, but nocturia (nocturnal urination) is a common side effect of apnea. I would often have to get up 2-3 times a night to go and pee ( and it did get instantly solved when I went on CPAP) . But then in general older adults don't sleep as deeply as teenagers (You actually do need less sleep as you age), so it's not too surprising to me that a teenagers nocturia would result in bed wetting, so if I were you I wouldn't sweat it, it was a quite natural reaction to the stress apnea causes.
Instead of Sleep apnea it should be called "Sleep deprivation, starving of oxygen, being poisoned by high CO2 levels, damaging the body and brain while it's supposed to be healing so that you constantly get worse and can never get healthy Apnea"

BadThad - congrats on being able to reduce your settings, on your wieght loss, and the overall success of your therapy!

I am, unfortunately, thinking about adjusting mine setting a little higher. My AHI is not bad - generally below 3; but I am at or near the top of my range (9.5-13) frequently. I'm just not sure which to adjust - or should I adjust both? The only concern I have about adjusting the higher number is that I did have a few Centrals during my study and titration.
Your APAP is running a lot at 13? If so, I would definately increase it to 14 to see how you respond. As far as the range, my feeling is you should be about 80% at the bottom each night. If you're running 80% at the top, your titration is too low. You should probably try 11-14 and see how it works for you. Like I said....and this is just my opinion....you should be 80% or more at your lowest pressure.
Why not just adjust your APAP up to the max? Mine is set 4-20 and it goes wherever it wants - although is usually around 9 and up to 13ish.
opening up the top is a great Idea... however if yours has to ramp to 9 every night I'd suggest that as a minimum, that way you don't put your body and mind through the stress of the machine adjusting to the correct levels.

29, 9 months. Not my favorite thing, but I'm happy my daytime headaches are gone.

34, 6 months. Still getting used to it and slowly experimenting with masks (too expensive to go fast).

I have used CPAP for about 30 years, and am now 87 years old. My general health is good and I truly believe that I would have never reached this age without my CPAPs that I have used all these years.

I've been on cpap (for one year) then-apap for a total of 12 years; and I'm 69 yrs of age. (If anyone wants to call me "old", I'll challenge them to a 5 mile foot race followed by a game of Concentration.)

As a footnote, apap is a major factor in my reaching a healthy 69.
