I'm just curious, what kind of politics gets banned on this board? I've seen all kinds here.

Professor Hanson so aptly describes his surroundings, and what's become of his home. I'm in the Sacramento area, which is the northern part of the Great Valley (the Sacramento Valley), while Hanson writes of the southern part (the San Joaquin Valley). What I see is a bit different, but Hanson writes of what I fear is headed my way (until I can leave the once-Golden State.)

The paradox of which Hanson writes about illegal aliens...“Please do not send me back to the culture I nostalgically praise; please let me stay in the culture that I ignore or deprecate.” is quite interesting. I have never understood why folks sneak here, illegally, then complain about the treatment.

Off topic, maybe, but it affects us all. And, profoundly so.

Well, the guvment won't let us vote for "None of the Above" so HOW do we get honest, ethical, intelligent people stupid enough to run for office??? Only the rich can afford to even try to run for office, even at just the state level. So HOW did they come by their "riches"? Thems that do run for office, especially at the national level, have to be pretty darn good at "I scratcha you back, now you scratcha mine". You run w/the dogs long enough you're gonna pick up some fleas. It takes someone who lusts for power and money to want to run and to win.

Just 'cause you're paranoid, doesn't mean it's not true.

I heard an excerpt being read over the radio on my way home yesterday. Having driven the length of the state a couple weeks ago, I saw a lot of what the author described. Lots of signs protesting lack of water, farmland going fallow, lots of abandoned farmland. It's pretty depressing.
