Any S9 Battery Packs Yet

Post by Roman Hokie » Wed Dec 15, 2010 11:32 am

Hey, gang. Just checked CPAP.com and I don't see what I need, but is anyone aware of any S9 battery packs (even for use without the H5i) available yet or soon?

Thanks!
Roman.

Pick a place like Best Buy with a good return policy and get a nice UPS system made for computers and try it out. Can't hurt. If you don't get the duration you want, take it back. Most have True/Pure Sine Wave inverters these days.

You may want to read this thread, great info here if you like to play with stuff.

Yeah, I had thought the UPS option. Problem is that it's not just short periods without power or power spikes. Over the summer, we had 1 night (after I procured my CPAP machine) when I went without it for about 4 hours due to blackout. I don't believe a simple consumer-market UPS will sustain me for THAT long.

This ran my Escape for 2 nights with Resmeds S-8 converter without a humidifier. I am pretty sure it will run my S-9 for 1 night with a 300 watt inverter. Got it at tooltopia.com Looks like I better pull it out of my truck toolbox and fully charge it and see if it will run at least one night. Stay tuned, will get back after a night or two. john

I tried a UPS I had around for backup when the power went out. The problem is the UPS had an alarm that beeped every 2 minutes. It kept me up.

I'm sure with some work, I could disable it, but prettymuch can't return it after that. So trying one out may not be that practical unless you check how/when it alarms and can disable it via a switch.

The best thing out there is John B Fisher's custom built set-up. He has done an excellent job of putting it together with great pictures, etc. making it very understandable to assemble. I am fortunate to have a Honda eu3000 that we camp with, so the seldom power outages are easy for me to deal with. We were the only ones with-in miles with outdoor Christmas lights on a few years ago when the entire valley was out of power for a few days, just had to do it. Click on the link in Mark's post and see what it entails, great set-up. john

I fully charged my 2 year old battery pack, let it sit un-used for 24 hours, then hooked it to my S-9 Auto with-out humidifier, at 9.4/12 cm, and got 7.5 hours for 2 consecutive nights.

Got this at TOOLTOPIA.COM For $114.99/free shipping.

Got this at BLACK&DECKER factory outlet for $12

Resmed battery guide called about right for the usage I received from this set-up, but I don't feel the safety margin of 50% applied to this. They recommended an 11 amp hour battery for 8 hours, my booster is rated 22 amp hour, I doubt another night of power was available.

Complete set-up has pretty small footprint, battery and inverter weigh 19.5 lbs, but if you need humidifier, this most likely will not work. I will recharge, let sit 24 hours and re-try with humidifier w/o climateline for one night and re-post results. john
