Hello, I'm a newbie (in apnea and this forum)

Post by crispin2010 » Tue Dec 14, 2010 3:17 am

Hi out there, I'm Holger, 54 yo and a CPAP user for now 4 weeks.
And I've been reading in this forum for even these 4 weeks. Sometimes, it was difficult for me to follow, because I'm a member from overseas, exact: Germany. But now, I feel strong enough not only to read but to write. Hope, my english is still good enough. If not: PLEASE TELL ME!

My apnea was diagnosed after a lot of check-ups following to a "Grand Mal" end of July (I was shopping with wy wife - can you imagine the comments of my friends?!). Before, I didn't had any problems, I thought. Today, I know, that there were indications of apnea for a long, long time. My sleep-doc told me, that in his opinion, I have the apnea for years, even perhaps decades. Since mid of november, I use a ResMed Mirage Quattro FFM and a Weinmann somnobalance machine with humidifier. After the first night with my machine, ma AHI was about 0 (before: about 50, longest apnea 87 seconds - I never knew, that I could hold my breath for such a long time). The pressure is 6 -14 hPa (soft-start).

Let this be enough for my first post.
Best regards from Germany
Holger

Your english is fine, probably better than mine. So how are you managing with your equipment ??. I have found this to be a very helpful site. Best wishes in your therapy. I have learn that this is a diagnosis that is fluid, things ,and condition change from time to time. You have to be a advocate for you when dealing with your health care provider, and want to make the therapy work. I got my CPAP and used it very sucessfully for 5 years before a adjustment was needed. The problem was I gave up on it thinking that it was no longer effective. That was not the case, I needed to be retested and reset with my pressure. Now the autopaps help with that. Good luck

Hi,

your English is impeccable, and thanks for talking and formally introducing yourself. I am already, after such a short time, feeling like this site is him, and know you will too. Amazing numbers for your therapy, and may they always be so good. So happy to meet you.

Bear Hugs,
MoonBear
