nervous excitement?

Post by yardbird » Mon Nov 21, 2005 11:10 am

still waiting for doc to call me back ... trying to get prescription for auto CPAP so I can place the order. Why am I nervous? It's only a little after noon here.... sheeesh.....

Just cause I called Friday? In fairness she was on vacation and today is the first day back... I'm sure she's got a pile of stuff to get through waiting for her...

Plus... maybe I'm excited about getting new equipment. I'm not even calling the pulmonologist's office. I feel more like a part of someone's billing cycle there than part of someone's care.

so now I'm babbling in here .... nice, huh?

yardbird, talkabout sounding familiar!! LOL I was ready to get hooked up the morning my sleep study ended, but it took over 2 weeks for the study to be read, sent to my doc, doc to prepare prescription, etc. Talks about frustrating! Knowing there was a treatment out there that helped so darn much, but not being able to access it! AAHHRRGGG!!

I sday, go ahead, give the doc a call! In my experience, you have to keep after them, otherwise they get busy and don't get back to you in a "timely" (timely [def]: as fast as we want!) fashion.

Good luck.

This therapy WORKS!!!

yeah I just called to... "make sure she has my OFFICE number and not my home number" ... and her assistant told me "Oh! you're on the top here. So as soon as she gets a break to call people, you should be hearing from here unless she just writes the script and hands it off to me. Then I can fax it to you"

This isn't a H U G E deal... but I was hoping that if I got the order placed this morning, there might be some small glimmer of hope that I'd have it by wednesday.....before the holiday.

I can say that the humidifier-on-the-heating-pad is successful, but only marginally so.

funny how excited we get about breathing, ain't it?

I'm so envious of you, Yardbird! I'm still waiting to hear from the pulmonologist at the sleep center! I was so pleased they got me in on a cancellation last week. I had hopes I would get the equipment before leaving for the Thanksgiving holiday. Like TX, I felt so good that first night on CPAP at the lab that I wanted it as soon as possible. But, here it is, almost two weeks and nothing yet, and tomorrow I leave early in the morning for a week! So, I will spend a week with my family sleeping late, snoring loudly, cranky, foggy and forgetful.

Good news yardbird! It took my insurance company over 4 weeks to approve mine - because "You don't have sleep apnea!" Hello! I have upper airway resistance syndrome and it is treated the same way! But the insurance company had no clue! Then when it was approved it took less than two days and the DME rep. was standing at my door with my machine!

Good luck and I hope things work out well for you!

PhillyPat,

I was diagnosed 5 years ago. This isn't my FIRST machine. It's actually replacing a SoloLX that I suspect is about to croak for some reason. Insurance hasn't paid a dime for this OR the new Swift I ordered.

BUT... now that the IMPORTANT part is taken care of (getting the equipment), I'm going to start burying my insurance provider in paper. My policy states that I have 50% reimbursement on medical equipment. I don't see anything in there about time limits. AND... I don't even think my current carrier is the one I had when I got my first machine.

My thinking is that this isn't important (the insurance reimbursement). Getting the equipment was the important part. I've paid for it. NOW if I can get them to pony up half of what it cost me... great. If not..... I'm still going to have the equipment.
