Quattro vs Hybrid

Post by trytryagain » Fri Dec 03, 2010 11:17 am

As far as full face masks go, has anyone switched from a Quattro to a Hybrid? I've been trying to use the Quattro for the past few nights, as I have a horrible cold with severe congestion. No matter how much prep I just couldn't get through more than an hour last night. I cannot get the quattro to fit to avoid leaks unless I tighten way more than whats recommended. I have to completely compress that outer seal for it to work at all. I just received by fed-ex a new Hybrid (ordered from cpap.com) since I've maxed out my insurance for DME for the year. I have no experience with this type of mask pillow/oral combo. I'm doing pretty good with the swift fx until I got this cold. Anyway, who here might have done the switch and was happy? I have a feeling this congestion is going to last a while, I don't get sick often but when I do it seems to last forever, and I NEED to sleep.

Try the Hybrid. It is a great mask. When I was trialing new masks and tried the Quattro just before the Hybrid...what a difference!

At first I thought that the Hybrid wasn't going to work either, but read through some of the forum advice about fitting it and kept trying different combinations of pillows and shell and adjustments. When I hit on the right combination it was amazing.

It will help if you do a forum search for Rested Gal's lab rat awards for mask fixes--Bleeping Beauty has a good one, and also search for Roster's hybrid fitting suggestions (very helpful).

I find that when I have a cold, I sleep much better with CPAP than without, but if I mask up while I am congested the entire night is miserable. The trick for me is to clear my nasal passages and sinuses immediately before masking up. That can mean sinus rinse, nasal spray or nasal lubricant, or all three. If I am really sick I also use a nasal decongestant spray (for no longer than the recommended time since longer use can cause serious problems).

I hope you feel better soon.

I have had very good luck stopping Quattro leaks with Padacheek's anti-leak strap.
