Just my2 cents.
Swordz please reply when you get a chance.
Thanks

The more I get to know you, the more I like you and the more observant I believe you are!!! LOL, just kidding. No, that is me at 47, a year ago. That was pre-CPAP, when I looked like a truck had run me over and left me lying by the side of the road. If you could see the photo enlarged, you'd see the dark circles and bags under the eyes better. But thank you.
Swords/Cory and I have a little bit of a thing going here about him calling me an old woman and me telling him how young he is (I have a son his age, 22, I believe). It stems back from an older post. But like I told him, this little old lady will kick his young butt any time he wants to go at it...and with him just recuperating from surgery, I stand a much better chance of really being able to do that right now.

Cory,
Great news. Glad you are doing so well. Hope the rest is smooth sailing. Any surgery is no fun in my book, but a roto-rooter up the nose has got to be painful!! A couple of months ago my Dr. mentioned some options since I was still having difficulties with straight CPAP (even at just 7). I could have my jaw moved forward or have my tongue moved forward. I very nicely declined. Got an AutoPAP instead.
Will be praying for a quick recovery.

Tried going to class today, any1 wanna ask how that went?
I 'm pretty sure my turbinate reduction was either laser or scalpel, but no RF. With RF, isn't there no bleeding and practically little recovery time? My nostrils are quite sore still but little bleeding left. The nasal rinse is mostly to get healing and crusts out.
Taking my packing out on Saturday was quite interesting. I'm still pretty drugged right now and waiting for Wed to get these frikcin stitches out.
Still on my meds and plenty of sleep. Today was the 1st day since Friday I brushed my teeth becuase opening my mouth hurts so bad. (Insert bad breath comment hear _____). Apparently the stitches are near the bottom of nose, and right above my top lip.
Thanks all for the replies and hopefully I'll be out of this medicated daze shortly. Happy T-day!

Got my splints out today, and I can only tell you how bad that sucked. It really seems like my doc was teasing me though, becuase I could breath the best in 10 years after he took my splints out, but then 5 mins later I couldn't breathe again because of the swelling. Seriously, its like my nose is 3x times as big now becuase I can breath so much better.
I"m still a little swollen in the nose and still having the wonderful nose ooze (mucous, blood). The worse part was by far removal of the packing on the day after surgery, and the splint removal today.
The surgery was definitely worth it and the pain is quite minimal compared to other surgeries. Breathing better will not cure apnea (even though I'd be suprised if it doesn't drop some AHI) but it DEFINITELY a step in the right direction. If you can't breath, you can't use CPAP.
I may get tonsils out at the end of the month and Pillar in Jan, but kinda touch and go.
Bring the surgeries on! (No, not really becuase I'm a wuss and have no $$.)

Wow, terrific news. I am so happy for you, truly. You must feel so good that you went through this all and already are noticing such an improvement. I hope you continue to feel better and better every day. And I'll bet you're right about the CPAP now working so much better than it did pre-surgery. Glad we can score one for the good guys for a change!

Good to hear a fellow de-turbinator is coming through ok.
The bleeding went on for a LONG time for me. The saline flushes are crucial to make the healing go along well, even if it does seem like you might be getting weak from loss of blood.
I also found the pain wasn't all that bad from the surgery, but the discomfort going on for so long was a bit of a suprise.
It sure was worth it though and I think you will find at the very least your CPAP will work MUCH better and you can probably get by on a lower pressure. I got retitrated after my surgery healed and went from 10-14cm to 6-10cm...and mostly at the 6cm end of it.
Well worth it!
Good luck and good healing!

Sooo this was probably mentioned somewhere but you can't use CPAP immediately or soon after the surgery, can you? Or can you start after the packing is out using one of those larger cup type masks that go over your nose????
I was daydreaming about having cosmetic nose surgery, probably wouldn't do it anyway, but just daydreaming and then thought about the awful prospect of days without CPAP......hmmmmm.
Jan in Colo.

I would assume you would have to use a mouth only type of mask for post-surgery. The septum is suppose to set and heal, and I notice just wearing my glasses that causes enough pressure to cause some pain and soreness.
As for the bleeding its not that bad. My nose is still really, really frickin sore, but its the places from the stitches from healing that are there still. Course its not even a wk post-op and I can def go back to class and whatever else a slacker like me tends to do.
I prob won't try the CPAP, as I've already had my go around with it. The dental device comes in next wk and I'm going to get titrated with it in mi-Dec to see how well it'll do. My OSA dentist and ENT both agree my tongue is the main part, and which the Somnomed MAS will do 'wonders'. YAY!
