Regenesis Pillow - Does it ever get quieter?

Post by ChelseaChestnut » Fri Nov 19, 2010 8:57 pm

I got my Regenesis Pillow today and I am curious if the sound it makes ever gets quieter? It is very soothing, almost sounds like a rain stick, but not so great right against my ear.

I don't notice mine making any noise but I have used it for a year and a half. I also have another cover over the top of mine due to allergies so that probably help muffles the sound a tad. I have had to add a few more hulls, but other than that I can't sleep without mine now.

Yes it will, I can't tell how much time it toke but it became silent, mine has been like a normal pillow for long time now (it's 7 months old or so).

Good question! i have the same issues with mine.I'm glad to see by the replies that you got to your question, the Regenesis does get quieter i guess that it is the hull's rubbing againts each other that eventually make's it silent. Hmmm i'm thinking to meaby put mine in the clothe's dryer ( No heat and in the delicated cycle) for a few minutes just to see if i can make it a bit more quiet, but first i'm going to put a couple of more pillow case's on it just in case i dont need any accidents,( I would be in DEEP DOO,DOO if SHE who has No Fear find's just one hull inside the dryer)

Hmmm...I read this post last night and then went and listened to my pillow. I've had mine for a year or so. It certainly makes some noise when I move it. I call it my sand bag as it looks and feels like one kinda. It rustles when it moved. But when I'm lying still on it, it doesn't make noise. I don't remember that it ever did. One noise that I am quite aware of is the air from my exhaust vents (is that what they're called?) kinda whistles when it hits the pillow. I solve that by carving out a little gulley so it's not so noticeable. I hope you like yours Chelsea!

Thank you for all your replies. Last night with the pillow did not go well at all. Although, I could certainly tell a difference with it. My mask didn't feel like it was being squished against the side of my face, but the pillow felt so hard and was difficult to adjust. I also had to adjust it every time I moved. I slept with it for about an hour. When I woke up I just could not get it adjusted right. Too many things to adjust really. When I carved out a spot for my mask, then I lost my neck support. When I adjusted that back, I'd lose the spot for my mask. I did fill it with all the hulls it came with to start out, so tonight I will take some out and try again. I also tried a memory foam pillow I had just bought and didn't like it either. It was too hard, my mask felt like it was up against a rock.
One good experience from last night...I purchased the vapor clear set from Pur-sleep and absolutely loved. The light smell from their scent called "Calm" was so nice to have instead of smelling the dish soap I use to clean my mask. I will definitely be ordering other scents from them!
I did use my mask the whole night for the first time!!!
I have found that I am not as tired at night as I used to be. I am managing during the day on only 6 hours a night, vs. 8 hours a night before cpap. Has anyone else ever experienced this before?

Try taking out some of the hulls as you suggest Chelsea. I don't like mine so full cause it makes it more difficult to adjust the hulls to suit my needs at the time. I need lots of neck support and find that I can shift the hulls to provide the support I need. The pillow will continue to feel really hard, which I like a really firm pillow anyway and was always my problem with other pillows. Yet since you can adjust the hulls can carve out where you need the support or lack of support (such as where your mask is against the pillow).

Chelsea, I apologize. Yesterday night when I toke my Regenesis I realized it still has some noise, but it seems like I get used to it.

You need to have the good amount of hulls inside. Me too I had the same problem adjusting it at the beginning, too much hulls makes a very hard pillow hard to adjust because you don't have room to put aside the excess hulls, and not enough makes problems to adjust for support for the neck. I have neck problems and I had tried at least 8 different type of pillows and the Regenesis is the best I ever tried.

You will find the pillow hard at the beginning but you will get used to it. Same thing for the noise. Do you know, I used to live close to an airport, at the beginning I found that very noisy, after not long I even didn't noticed the plains. Human beings are like that.

Don't give up you will succeed.

Hang with it Chelsea. I got mine and hated it at first. I put it away for a few months. Then I pulled it out again and now I love it. It IS hard, no getting past that, but I've gotten used to it. I took a nap today and didn't hear a sound!

I bought a buckwheat Sobakawa pillow years ago; and took it right back--just couldn't STAND THE CRUNCHING.

Hi ChelseaChestnut... I too have/had pillow issues. I have bought more pillows than you can imagine. I do not like the Regensis pillow, memory foam, feather, one piece foam, pieces of foam pillows. I recently had to go out of town and the hotel had nice pillows but I wasn't sure how my mask would seal. Not only did it seal, but I had no movement of my mask. As I arrived home, I bought them. The pillows are down alternative pillows. I usually have to use 2 pillows. This pillow was so perfect that I only need one. I was completely surprised that these pillows worked. I hope you find your perfect pillow.

I wish there were some way to "test drive" different kinds of pillows! (other than if a motel happens to have one that works) I'd love to try a Regenesis pillow, but I'm afraid of spending that much money, and then having it sit in my closet due to not liking it.

I did pick up a down alternative pillow last week and I LOVE it! It is so soft and flexible, I can squish it just right to fit around my mask and against my face. I use a firm pillow beneath it for support. Thanks so much for the suggestion! I have given up on the regenesis pillow. It is being shipped back for a refund tomorrow.
