ResLink w/oximetry

Post by wading thru the muck! » Wed Dec 22, 2004 1:02 pm

For those xpap equipment junkies out there... a TAS member is selling a ResLink accessory for a Resmed autopap details at this link:

Looks like a great price for that expensive but must have item.

Wading Thru' it may be a bargain! But not if we cannot see the device and veryfy that he actually 'owns' such a product.

I'd have difficulty just sending him the money and keeping my fingers crossed that he completes his part of the deal.

Also what if the thing is faulty. It may seem like good value but to me it is a hec load of Dosh!

I'm new to the whole internet thing so maybe I am a bit too nervous. What are your thoughts Wading Thru?

Hi Fifi,

Your right, there are risks involved. A purchaser is not without some means of checking on this individual though. Browse his previous posts and such. I purchased a Mirage Swift from a member on this forum for a fantastic price and use it everyday. He and I now correspond on occasion and I consider him a great cyber friend.

There are those of us that plunk this kind of money into a slot machine at the casino on occasion. I'd rather risk my hard earned money trusting a fellow cpap'er. The slots are notoriously likely to keep you without your money and empty handed... just a thought.

There's always a chance you'll get burned though.
Sincerely,

Perhaps I'm too trusting, but I've bought/sold/exchanged quite a few expensive machines and masks with cpap'ers I "knew" only as a nickname on the message boards. I don't know the guy at all other than having a good impression of him from having read his posts. I'm not endorsing anyone, but you know what... I personally wouldn't hesitate a moment to contact him and send him a check if I wanted a ResLink...I just don't happen to have a machine it could be used with.

Fifi, I know what you mean about the "what if"'s of sending money to an individual you've seen only as an online nickname. I took a deep breath the first time I sent a check to a private individual for a mask. (Others have probably had the same feeling about dealing with someone called a silly name like "rested gal" lol ) I guess it comes down to how reliable one feels his/her own instincts are about other people. So far, every transaction I've had online, whether it was with an online store or an individual, has been more than satisfactory. But if someone doesn't feel comfortable with the idea of buying something from a message board poster, they certainly shouldn't.

Wader, I like your philosophy.

Thank you Wading Thru. Interesting to see that there are other postings from him/her, I did not realise. But unfortunately anyone could say they are a fellow sufferer.

For small amounts of money no problem. Rested gal do you normally see the products that you buy if they are more costly items such as machines?

Fifi, in my best private transaction so far, I bought a few-months-old Respironics REMstar autopap without seeing it first - along with heated humidifier, software and card reader from another woman who had been posting on the TAS message board. She had been struggling to get cpap therapy to work for her for almost a year, to no avail. She finally started using a TAP dental device that worked great for her. She was not even offering her cpap equipment for sale - just had been posting all along on the message board about her experiences. When I read that she was having such success with the dental device and had no intention of ever again using cpap, I e-mailed her to see if she wanted to sell any of her equipment. I was able to buy all of it for about $700 - sight unseen. I sent the check before she sent anything. Two big boxes arrived very soon, including lots of masks that she had tried. Even an Aussie heated hose and adapter! Everything was in excellent shape. I hit the jackpot. And she was glad to get at least a drop in the bucket back for so many out-of-pocket expenses. Without insurance she had been buying all of it herself, as do I.

Most of the people I've sent a mask to or bought a mask from...we tend to send the mask to each other first. Check comes afterwards. I guess my attitude is, "Hey, the mask was useless to me anyway... if the person doesn't ever pay, so what?" So far, everyone has been absolutely wonderful and has paid right away. Often mask/check pass each other in the mail.

Just a follow-up ... saw this today, two days after the gentleman offered his ResLink attachment for sale:

"The ResLink has been sold; thanks for allowing me to post it. A fellow TAS member is now the proud owner."

i guess the moral of this story is: "you snooze, you lose!"

If I hadn't just bought a ResLink the day before, I'd have jumped at it.
