mask caused Staph Infection
Re: mask caused Staph Infection
Hi, sounds like you are having a very rough time with the bridge of your nose. I too had an extremely sore nose bridge (although not in your league) and have had great success with the Comfort Care Sleep Pad. Since I have begun using it my nose is perfect!

I had the same problem, but did not get a staph infection. Still have a scar on my nose from the mask (Quattro). I started using the Philips FitLife Total Face Mask with very good results, it does not touch my nose and I am able to get 0.0 leak most nights .The comfort care pad did not work for me. The FitLife allows your nose to heal while you continue to use your XPAP and is a good permanant solution.
Good Luck,
Mary Z.

The reason the prior lesion(s) was asked was that some poeple have Herpes, and that is generally a recurrent infection which breaks down the skin, THEN staph invades. If staph aureus is placed on normal skin, it does nothing. So the mask might facilitate the infection, but NOT cause it. Get your herpes blood titer checked, and a culture for herpes virus.
Many humans have staph aureus on their skin and in their nose and it does not cause a problem until the mucosa or skin is disrupted for other reasons.

Thanks Physician, That's why I asked because I had a staph aureus nail infection many years ago that never recurred and I was told at that time this strain of bacteria was not uncommon on the human skin.Physician wrote:pears5 wrote:Thanks for asking Yes I meant that infection. I highly recommend pad-a-cheek's nose bridge protectors. I used them for a couple of years until she made the mask liners that go all the way around the cushion to protect the face from the silicone. I love them. They are soft, comfortable and keep the seal from leaking. They wash up well in the washing machine (in a lingerie bag). I wish I had them when I first started out. It would have saved me so much pain in the nose!

Re: mask caused Staph Infection
So sorry you're having such a hard time. You may be like me though,I had to completely gave up on any mask that touches my nose! It was ruining my nose,I have a permanent hump on my nose from trying to use a full mask,[or nasal].
I now use a large fitlife which does not touch the face at all,{just around the outside]. You might want to try one at least until your nose heals.
Have a good night!

Re: mask caused Staph Infection
My new comfort gel full face mask made my nose sore with a tiny white blister on top.
I wore my Swift FX last night after the Hybrid gave me 80+ lpm leakage.
I'm off to the store to get the littlest waterproof bandage to slap over my red bumpy schnozz. (the blister's gone)
Gotta wear my gel--best seal ever. Wish me luck.

binky
Hey guys, thanks so much for all the suggestions. I am quite interested in trying the FitLife Total Face CPAP Mask . I have one question for any of you that use this type. I notice it goes over your eyes as well. I can't imagine that pressure blowing over my eyes (even though they are closed), does it not bother your eyes at all? I have dry eyes (menopausing, have dry everything lol) But the mask itself seems like it would solve about 3 other problems that I am currently having. Can anybosy using this mask maybe comment on the eye issue? I am calling my service place tomorrow to see about getting in for an appointment. Unless my medical will pay for the nose protectors, I sure can't afford those every month. I did send an email into pad-a-cheek but have not heard back from them? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Re: mask caused Staph Infection
binky,
You don't have to get a new nose protector every month. I've used mine for two years and it still looks the same as new. Just wash once a week with your laundry.

Re: mask caused Staph Infection
binky,
I do not have another mask I can use while my poor wittle nose heals so I have been doing without. Been a real treat as I sleep so much better without this barbaric machine but unfortunately I do wake with migranes when I don't wear it. So hopefully I will get into see my service provider soon.
Yes I sent you off an email I believe last Friday night but it's only Monday and was going to give you a couple of business days to respond. I will at some point tonight or tomorrow send you off a PM seeing that you did not receive my email. Thank you so much.
Oh yes the cloth ones I understand you can re-use those. I was referring to the RemZzzs CPAP Mask Liners that state you use one a night. I am also interested in maybe trying out the comfort care pads that I believe are made from gel and you can use them for a month and I believe I saw them online for about $12.95. This one seems like it would be a lot easier to use then trying to fit those other ones around your mask everynight. Maybe they are not so bad as I am picturing, but I would assume they have to be adjusted just right around the mask every night and I'm trying to make things easier. It seems it would be easier just to apply this gel mask onto my nose and it would be easier to place everynight without having to make sure it is exactly positioned just right everynight. I still can't seem to log in to leave a URL to show you what I mean, have did the cookie thing, I dunno???You don't have to get a new nose protector every month. Re: mask caused Staph Infection
I cannot seem to find this anywhere, do they even make a full face mask? ThanksYou might try the mask called SleepWeaver by Circadiance. It is made of parachute material and is really soft and non irritating.

I called this morning to get an apppointment and I must wait until Friday aaghhhhhh! I tried putting a piece of gauze under the bridge of my nose last night, figuring I should not go too many night without wearing it at all, it helped a bit, but for the first time I had severe dry mouth and I had my humidity up as high as it would go. Do the problems ever end? I feel like such a whiner LOL
I am going to take all your kind peoples suggestions into my OSA specialist on Friday and hopefully we can come up with something.
But this is not a full face mask? I am unable to wear anything else as I am a big time mouth breather. Here ya go...The posted url was here
