One more Question on mouth taping
Say you've taken an Ambien, taped your mouth closed because of leaking your dead asleep and the power goes out. Any ideas on weather you would wake up immediately? I just tried the taping for the first time last night, but today I was thinking about a power outage. Now normally I'm such a light sleeper I wake for the slightest sound or touch. If I need to take something to sleep (believe me I'm trying not to) I'm afraid I would be so knocked out and not notice a power failure.

Re: One more Question on mouth taping
You are not without a supply of air to breathe if you have a power outage. Even when turned off, the air still enters the machine through the filtered intake, passes through the hose to your nose. In addition, if your mask has exhalation holes, which I imagine it would have, as you breathe, air would enter and exit both through the hose and these small holes. Because of open mouth recirculation, I now tape every night and experienced a brief outage a few nights ago. I did wake up, because ther was no pressure. However, even if I hadn't, I would still be breathing. Not to worry.

Without the machine running you are in danger of having apneas just like you did with no treatment.
Ambien has a powerful effect on me and I might sleep a long time and have many apneas.
I recommend a power outage alarm.
This is the one I bought and I am quite happy with it http://www.acehardware.com/product/inde ... =155761191
I leave it plugged into the power strip that my CPAP machine is plugged into. If the power goes off, the alarm beeps and shines a bright area light which can be pulled out and used as a flashlight until the power comes back on.
Google "power outage alarm" for other brands and suppliers.

I use the blue painter's tape, but by the time I wake up, I've drooled so much it nearly falls off.

I tape, and before I built my battery power system, sometimes when the power went off I would wake up and some I would sleep right through the outage, However I don't know how long they were just that the power went off, clocks flashing. Now since my cpap runs off of a 12 volt battery I don't worry about power outages.

Re: One more Question on mouth taping
I can sleep thru almost anything. My husband thinks the cpap puts me into a coma. When the power goes out I wake with in 1 minute. I know because our alarm system will beep with in 1 minute and I'm awake before it beeps. With a nasal pillow mask and mouth taped, I'm still able to breath with some effort.

Re: One more Question on mouth taping
I tape my mouth and use ambien at times. The other night the power had flickered off, just long enough to turn off my machine and all the clocks needed to be reset. I woke up within seconds. This has happened to me before and I alway wake up immediately. I really think your brain will wake you up, just like it does when you have untreated apnea.
