Resmed Card Reader doesn't work

Post by allend » Mon Nov 08, 2010 11:10 pm

I have a VPAP Auto 25.

I just tried tonight to use the Resmed card reader that I got off eBay and Rescan 3.12 does not recognize it. It doesn't even know it's there. I reinstalled it twice each on an XP computer and one with Vista. I hear the sound when you put in knew hardware but nothing happens. So, the computer might see it but not Reslink.

It says:
There are NO devices available for the downloading data.
Connect a flow generator or or data card and try again.

In the device settings of Reslink it shows no devices and when I hit Select Device, the device list shows NO DEVICES for 1, 2, 3, 25, 2b, c amd a blue thing.

The card is going into the card reader with the chip side up.

I even tried getting a new driver install program from ACS and this is what I got when I clicked on setup.exe:
Missing the package file for installation

Any ideas.

Green LED blinking? Mine is always blinking while connected to the computer, even without a card present. When I insert my card, the blinking green LED changes - it flashes quickly for a few seconds, then it started blinking with in a pattern like this: short blink, short blink, long blink (repeats).

I get the same "There are NO devices available for the downloading data. Connect a flow generator or or data card and try again." without the card inserted - sure your card works?

Do you see a message "CARD INSERTED" and then "COPY COMPLETE" on the LCD of your CPAP machine when you insert the card? If the machine can use the card, you'd think the reader could as well.

Are you running another program that uses the com port? The SPO7500 software (Vitabase) for instance clashes with the Rescan, since its USB connector is actually a USB to com coverter (as is the ACS card/driver), so whichever program I run first disables the second. When I want read data, I close one program before opening the other.

Additionally, if the tests Dave suggested above are successful then try the following:
Find the acs sevice in the services, and make sure it doesn't start automatically.

Power down the computer.
Insert the card in the reader
Power the machine on.
Always make sure the card is in the reader before you power on the machine.
And don't remove the card when the computer, or software are working.

Those helped when I ran into that problem.

Well, I was sure it was the card reader. Then I assumed maybe its the cards, I had two. I went onto the website of the company that makes the card reader and tried to download their latest drivers. So, I decided to pack everything up and go to my DME. They are really so nice and helpful, even though I might have gotten a used machine.. So the cards were fine and the card reader was fine, because the RT used it to download the card information. So, I asked her what version of the software she had and we looked and BINGO it is 3.10. I used 3.11 and 3.12 and I believe that's what the problem is.

So, does anyone know where I can get Rescan 3.10?

One more thing, my card reader is the ACR38U-PNC-R. It may be the -R is a newer model that can't work with 3.11 or 3.12.

When I had an S8, I used my card reader with Rescan 3.12.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. When I plugged in the reader, Windows automatically installed the correct driver.

It's been a while since I have had XP, so I'm not sure where the drivers are installed from. Perhaps the Rescan software when installed?

Did you have a previous version of Rescan installed before the 3.12? Perhaps something from that program stayed and didn't get replaced. Also, is your card reader the R version?

Bottom of my ResMed card reader that I bought new in July 2010 says "P/N: ACR38U-PNC-R"

I've only ever used 3.11 and 3.12. Using it on Windows XP SP3.

Here are some screenshots of my card reader config inside the device manager:

All of this was done automatically. I used the drivers that came with ResScan.

This might be worth a try.

1. Uninstall the Resmed software. Delete the Resmed directory if the uninstall does not do it. If it won't delete, whack it on the reboot (#3 below).

2. Meant to say, in the Windows hardware screen, there's a option to uninstall the driver if your reader device is listed. Do that.

3. Once done, unplug the reader, then reboot.

4. Install the Resmed software with the reader still unplugged. During installation, the install will prompt you for which drivers you want installed (reader obviously).

5. Reboot, although probably not necessary.

6. Plug in the reader and Windows should install the drivers which were loaded from #4.

7. Run the Resmed software. You may have to select your reader from within the 'Settings' menu.

If you've already done this, then ignore

If this doesn't work, then I'm out of ideas.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the screenshots (how do you do that?).

Your Driver Date is 3/24/06, mine is 12/15/09

Your Driver Ver. is 1.1.5.6 & mine is 1.1.6.2

How do I get the old driver?

All I did was install ResScan - it came with the driver. I recall after installing ResScan, another application automatically ran installing the card reader drivers.

Do you have the card reader plugged directly into your computer, or is it plugged into a USB hub?

ml, thanks but I don't think the new drivers work. What probably happened was that Dave used the Windows drivers that cam with XP or, maybe even the drivers for Encore..they still could have been in the computer. I don't know but the drivers he is using is more than 3 years older than the new ones. I don't know what happened but I was told that somewhere down the line ACR changed something and the normal ACR38 could not be used anymore. Now, the DME has an ACR38U-PNC and an ACR38U-PNC-R but they haven't upgraded their software yet. When they do, their ACR38U-PNC-R will not work unless the old driver stays in there. Apparently Resmed is encouraging the updates, probably because of the S9s.

No, it only indicates that it something on your PC that is causing the problem, nothing much else.

From your other descriptions, its clear to me that you definitely have some sort of driver issue.

The version of the ACS card reader driver is unlikely to be significant, as any version with a 2005 date onward will work with the Resmed reader (as I have successfully used them all).

Its probable that you have something else installed on your PC which is conflicting with the ACS card reader driver. Resolving that sort of driver problem is always tricky........

Cheers,

Bill

The drivers did not come with XP - they were installed by ResScan. I only use that XP computer (its actually a virtual machine on my mac) for running ResScan. Its a fresh install of XP SP3 and has never had any software installed other than ResScan. The drivers that come with ResScan 3.12 are apparently 3 years old. When I installed ResScan I saw the following screen appear after it was finished installing:

http://i769.photobucket.com/albums/xx33 ... enshot.png

Did you see that screen? It installs/configures the drivers for the smart card reader. To extract a copy of the 1.1.5.6 driver dated 3/24/06 that comes packaged with ResScan, do the following:

1) Run the "31302_ResScan_3.12.exe" installer
2) Answer Yes to do you want to install ResScan
3) Let the installer finish extracting ResScan.
4) Look for the following folder on your computer where <USERNAME> is your Username and <RANDOM STRING> is well, a random string The install files for ResScan are expanded into a temporary folder at this location.

C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Temp\<RANDOM STRING>.tmp\Card Reader Drivers\Data Card

5) Copy that above "Data Card" folder anywhere (to your Desktop for example)
6) Quit the "31302_ResScan_3.12.exe" installer

In there you'll find the version of the card reader drivers that SHOULD get installed along with ResScan. Its possible the presence of newer drivers on your system causes this step to be skipped when you install ResScan. Anyways, get rid of your existing ACR38 drivers and try these ones.
