Tape your mouth with...

Post by DaveMunson » Wed Nov 16, 2005 8:23 pm

Tried several types of tape from bandaids, almost every medical tape made especially everything J&J and 3M make.

Ended up using duct tape. Cheap. 2" Wide is more than enough. Works great.

Dave,

Please try the Tegaderm. Duct tape? Maybe it works as far as leaks go, but your skin is going to pay a price for that down the road, I would think. Your skin deserves better, not to mention the pain it must cause taking it off in the morning, especially a man with stubs from growth overnight of a beard/mustache...can't even imagine.

Perhaps other tapes won't hold because of the mustache/beard? And it might pull off the whiskers more easily than it would finer textured hair?
Duct tape fixes just about everything. You may have a winner for bearded men.

I use duct tape as hinge material on radio controled airplanes. It doesn't come off.

So I'm sitting here thinking about ripping it off my mouth in the morning and ... I have a moustache and..... man it brings tears to my eyes.

I got rid of the beard a while ago. Humm. Will update picture.

Actually, the duct tape ain't bad. It comes off eaiser than other tape I have used. It stays on which is better than 90% of the other tape I have tried. A bit of tape glue left here and there but it does not irritate my skin. No pain in removal. No leaks - mostly. 2" wide. Cheap. A bit better than the J&J water proof tape but not as sticky as 3M regular band aids. It is cheap duct tape - not the good stuff.

Finally got the encore software set up. Should have Myencore in another hour or so. What I found is that since taping, my leaks have gone WAY down. The pressure has dropped considerably. Where I use to spend a lot of time at higher pressures, it looks like I now spend 80% of the night at my current min (16). I dropped the low end to 14 & will monitor.

Isn't taping kind of dangerous?

Post by cmwhatley » Wed Nov 16, 2005 9:31 pm

My sinuses regularly clog up and I wake up feeling kind of smothered. I also have a problem with my mouth opening up. I'm concerned that if I taped, I would be asphyxiated.

My solution has just been to sleep with an ace bandage wrapped crown to chin. Not very sexy, but it seems to work fairly well.

Does anyone who tapes have congestion problems?

Really. It don't stick all that hard.

Must be the brand. The roll says "Made in Canada" on the back - no brand name. Sticks like semi-cheap bandaids.

The new picture is my mini-me.

"Does anyone who tapes have congestion problems?"

Scared to death of the potential problem. My machine tells me that I have used it for a bit over a thousand hours. I got a doo-hickey thing from Nasaline that allows me to flush the sinus.

If too congested, no tape. If completely congested, no cpap. This would be bad.

When I am conjested, I squirt and over the counter saline nose solution into my nose in heavy doses as it helps to clear the passages. Once the mask is on and I wasn't as conjested, my passages tend to remain clear during the night.

LORI !!! did i read somewhere you are leaving the forum??? I am sure I thanked you for the item you sent. I have stopped the taping and since I have the vpap i am not experiencing the dry throat and mouth
I dont understand all the chatter about softwear and readings etc. My MD never said anything about watching numbers or printouts...am i missing something I should have been told about by his staff? And I thought using cpap was a lifetime therapy.. how come you dont need to use it anymore?
Will I see you when you visit your folks??

That's the one. I got the Nasaline syrange and nose "adapter". Usually put a half cup through each nostral. How much is a heavy dose?
