OK, the resistance of the hose looks to be 12 ohms. On the available schematic there doesn't seem to be any kind of thermostat. If you go to toss it, can you dissect it to look for any other electrical components? I think you should measure the output of the DC transformer to see how much volts you got coming out of there, w/ and w/o load.

Not a bad deal. Wish I knew what kind of connector was on that.

12 ohms sounds right so that is 1 amp. I remember using a 9 volt power pack on mine to reduce the amount of heat.
