Anybody Know The Difference
Between:
Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine: Expert Consult Premium Edition - Enhanced Online Features and Print (5th Edition 2010)
And:
Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine: Expert Consult - Online and Print (Principles & Practice of Sleep Medicine (Kryger)) (5th Edition 2010)
The top one costs alot more at Amazon than the one below, but I'm confused about the difference. They have different ISBN's.

Re: Anybody Know The Difference
What a charming way to "bump" a post.
I ended up ordering the cheaper one, since "enhanced" online features aren't my bag. Paper is my métier (or "wheelhouse", as they say at work).

Re: Anybody Know The Difference
I for one am glad for online dictionaries, cause I'd have worn a paper one out just reading your posts! I used to think well of my vocabulary, but am I the only person who never heard or read the word metier?

Re: Anybody Know The Difference
I've seen "métier" but never heard anyone say it! But then, I've never been to France.
I'm still trying to figure out "wheelhouse!" LOL!!
Since cloudy put that in quotation marks, I guess he meant his co-workers were mispronouncing "wheelhorse" -- the one(s) hitched closest to the wagon. The ones that do the heavy duty pulling.
Kathy, your vocabulary and writing skills rock. I've always been impressed with your posts. You "wheelhouse" of cpaptalk, you!

Re: Anybody Know The Difference
The gas company sends a metier reader out once a month in our neck of the woods. Also, I believe astrolonomers use the word metier when they get tired of using the word asstroid.kteague wrote: I used to think well of my vocabulary, but am I the only person who never heard or read the word metier?

Re: Anybody Know The Difference
Well, I've been to France and never seen métier used before. In fact, I don't even know how to type "é" (I cheat and copy/paste). We do get métier readers here once a month too. In fact we get them to read all our métiers! Seems to be going around.brain_cloud wrote:métier

As I am really "Mr. Word Person" on another board, I can confirm that "wheelhouse" is a correct and oft used sports metaphor.rested gal wrote:I guess he meant his co-workers were mispronouncing "wheelhorse" -- the one(s) hitched closest to the wagon. The ones that do the heavy duty pulling.
"The Wheelhouse" is the spot where the quarterback has thrown the puck into the bullpen, hitting nothing but net.

Brain-dude, you really need to start more threads around here.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_o ... wheelhouse'
As for "métier," it may help us if we use it in a sentence, such as: "When the métier-reader visited the forte, he wore his strong suit." I prefer to use the word "thing," myself, as in 'not my thing.' "Thing" is such an underused word.
And does anyone know how much NotMuffy is charging to rent not-his/her space?

"Métier" was invented by Darwin in his Theory of Creativity ("Mix 1 part métier with 2 parts anti-métier, bake in a 374,272 degrees K oven for a million years. Serve with a Mérlot."jnk wrote:As for "métier," it may help us if we use it in a sentence, such as: "When the métier-reader visited the forte, he wore his strong suit."
