Think I have Good News !!
I have called my sleep Dr and talked to them there about my situation. I got 2 more places to try which I did not know of and called and talked to each of them (DME's) I called back the Dr's office and asked for a RX to be sent to the one I chose who seemed most knowledgable and they agreed I chose the correct place! yeah !! I specifically asked for a RX for a Resmed S9 - they said that would be fine and are sending over all the info to them. I called back to the DME and the girl I was instructed to ask for was awesome - she said she can get this insurance all together and I may be able to come in for my new machine on Tues or Wed. Please pray this all works out for me. Thanks everyone for your kind encouragement. I do know I need TX and I was so disheartened at the DME it took all the wind right outa my balloon
Think I am going to be ok - if anyone can tell me what I need to be able to do my own management - or at least to do it, once I get to the point I am released from compliance monitoring .
What software, etc....- I really want to be involved with this myself and not to be bullied around by others. The biggest hurdle for me was not being able to afford to outright purchase my own equipment and so needed the insurance which I am glad to have and grateful for but it obviously adds strings!
Thanks again.... ((((((everyone)))))

Good for you!! I had to fight with my insurance company. Then the next hurdle was finding a DME that accepted my insurance and gave what I wanted. Its been worth all the time, effort and stress. I am feeling much better

Re: Think I have Good News !!
At the risk of being horribly redundant, here goes:
Just make sure your new S9 is not an "Escape" --(no detailed data)
The Elite (like mine) has data; but the Autoset is also self titrating if you need it.
I wish I got the same machine as my husband, but it is still a great machine.
Good luck sleepy,
Welcome to the "rest" of your life.

What we discussed today was the Resmed S9 Autostart
Hoping that is the correct one and Monday I will know which one he wrote the RX for.
I will keep you posted - thanks again!

Autostart is an option on all the S9's, even the simplest, it simply means the machine starts automatically when you start breathing.
You should see the word Autoset in written above the round on / off button

Re: Think I have Good News !!
Thanks so much for the clarification - maybe we were talking about the Autoset - now I am not sure - but I will know on Mon for sure when I speak with the DME person again - I will be sure that is the RX he ( my Dr )wrote for.
Someone mentioned the S9 Elite. What is different between the Elite and the Autoset? (Just so I have info when I talk to them on Mon) If the insurance is all changed over to this DME smoothly she said I might have the machine Tues or Wed so that sounds good by me but I do want to be sure its for the right one.
Also - can I use the Optilife nasal cradle with the S9 Autoset? That is what I had been using and it was agreeing with me - finally had gotten that adjusted to comfort and no leaks (though the whole feeling of having it is still difficult - nothing normal about having something on your face blowing air up your nose ) But I so want to feel better and have some success with this thing and be able to sleep. I am looking forward to a quieter machine as I am such a darn light sleeper !

Re: Think I have Good News !!
Elite is straight CPAP
Autoset is APAP (auto adjusting)
Autoset is APAP (auto adjusting)
Re: Think I have Good News !!
S9 Autoset is EXTREMELY quiet--and I have it right next to my bed. You can use any mask with it............push for the climateline instead of a regular hose also--it's a heated line that helps prevent rain out (water in your nose or face).

Great job in being your own advocate! To learn about the differences of the ResMed S9adksleepygal wrote:What we discussed today was the Resmed S9 Autostart

series simply go to:
http://www.resmed.com/us/products/s9_se ... c=patients
The following recommendations are based on my own negative experiences with DME due to a huge knowledge deficit relating to xPAP, DME, and insurance.
I had a bit of a struggle with my DME in order to get the machine that I wanted (S9 AutoSet). My DME tried to get me to accept an S9 Escape. I recommend that you get a copy of your doctor's Rx faxed or emailed to you so you know exactly what it says. (You are entitled to a copy of your Rx and should keep it on file).
If for some reason your RX does not specifiy "S9 AutoSet with Humidfier" call your doctor's office and ask to get the Rx rewritten as such and ask for a copy of the Rx.
Also an OP recommended the Climateline tubing. I highly recommend it. To avoid any hassles with your DME - get this written on your RX. Your Rx would then read, "S9 AutoSet with Humidifier (H5i) and Climateline tubing and Patient's choice of mask".
One other suggestion is to ask for the email address of the individual you are dealing with at your DME's office so that you have a written record of any questions/answers. Emailing my DME with my exact order and having her confirm my order via email was definitely to my advantage.
I found that it was absolutely necessary for me to remain one step ahead of my DME at all times and to anticipate and be prepared for any greed-based actions on the part of my DME. As nice-appearing as the woman who "assisted" me at my DME's was, her job was to give me the cheapest machine so she could bill my insurance the "allowed amount" which in my case is $1238.38 (my co-pay being 20%). The cheaper the machine, the bigger the profits for the DME. If I had not taken the time to call my insurance company and ask how much was the "allowed amount" for xPAP in my area, whether or not my insurance company rented the machine for x months or whether I could purchase it outright from an online source or a contracted in-network source - I would have potentially ended up with a machine I did not want.
BUYER BEWARE and more importantly BUYER BE INFORMED and watch your back with those "nice" people at your DME. Winning this game means you don't walk out of your DME's office until you have exactly what you want. Armed and prepared, you will do great!

Re: Think I have Good News !!
Get the s9 Autoset! I have one and as you can see i am a newbie too!!! I love MINE!!! I have been wearing it a full night the past two nights straight.. NO issues. Get the climateline hose!!! I love it too.
Now that I found the ideal temperature to set my humidifier on I am very happy with my treatment. I slept like a LOG last night. I started with my Machine Monday night.
I am hoping by next week not to need to take something to help me fall asleep. I am also reducing my ramp time. I think that is what is causing me to take soo long to fall asleep.
The therapist told me I may even want to turn the ramp off. I also love the warm up feature...NO cold air on the nose.
Good luck I hope you get the machine that you want. I had to try different DMEs to get what I wanted. I got exactly what i wanted in machine and mask.

Climateline--I totally endorse. Am experiencing my first cold since starting treatment, and it really helps.
I think I'll survive.
