Newbie question - should I ask for a do-over?

Post by Kem53 » Thu Nov 04, 2010 9:15 am

I had a sleep study done on Oct. 22nd that showed I have moderate sleep apnea. I slept a total of 110 minutes and the sleep study person who talked to me about my results said I never went into REM sleep, which is when the most events or most severe events occur. She said my apnea may be more severe than my results indicated, but does it matter if I have to go for the titration study anyway or should I have the original study redone and take an Ambien to sleep better? They did tell me to take an Ambien for the upcoming titration study. Has anyone had any problems taking that? I am so happy to find this board with so many helpful people on it. I have been reading through the threads.

No need to put yourself through another study just to prove how bad your apnea is--it's bad enough to justfy treatment already.

I hope you do better at the titration study.

---and take the Ambien for the titration study. I wish I had done so, because I only slept two hours that night and had an inaccurate titration.

REM sleep was non-existent in my sleep study also, due to the number and severity of events leading into REM - one of the reasons they slapped the CPAP on me half way through. With the CPAP I had ZERO events, so I guess REM was possible.

That's what I wondered about was whether insurance would cover moderate sleep apnea. I called in, but they couldn't give me a concrete answer. The doctor is the one that recommended the titration study, so hopefully I will just owe the 20%.

Thanks, I was a little leary after reading the Ambien side effects, but since I only slept about 2 hours (like you) for the first study, I don't want to mess up the second one too!

Excellent! That is what I am hoping for!
