Dizzy this morning

Post by Dannys Nanny » Thu Oct 28, 2010 11:46 am

Hi, all
Last night was the first time I have used my CPAP, except for the sleep study. I have noticed being dizzy or off balance this morning and I'm wondering if that is something "normal" at first or ...........? Anybody else have this feeling in the beginning?

Thanks so much for your help.

It may be your sinus and nasal passage need to get adjusted. You may want to do a nasal rinse before going to bed. Sinus can affect your ears and sense of balance.

Also play with your humidity levels some sinus like more humidity and others like less.

Yes I had that when I started, and it has not gone away..

I dont know if the cpap exacerbated a sinus/ inner ear issue, but its still going on..

I had it at the beginning and it DID go away--definitely sinus related in my case.

But make sure you are not having any other symptoms, since dizziness can occasionally be serious--just because you are on CPAP doesn't mean other things can't develop.

Be absolutely sure that you are not covering any of the exhaust ports with your pillow. If you do not exhaust the CO2 it could make you dizzy. I would help to know what mask you are using.

Dannysnanny,

to put your machine in your posts.. do this...

go up to the left side of the screen and click on user control panel, then click on profile, then click on edit equipment..

then add what you have from the drop down menu.... and then choose text, its easier for us to read that..

also there is a place you can write details of your sleep condition, your ahi, your pressure... or a chicken soup recipe!

Yes, I was dizzy and headachy for the first week, but have been fine since. My left eustachius tube is always a bit blocked (it makes these crunching sounds), but the ENT has not been able to find anything wrong with a CT scan etc and my hearing is fine, so. I reckon the dizziness could also be because I don't turn around while sleeping now, and because the stabiliser fluid in my ear (don't know the official term) is to thick it now sometimes needs more time to catch up with me when I get out of bed.

While I have not experienced this sense of dizziness, it makes sense that it happens for some folks. Why? Well, our sense of balance is actually governed by a LOT of different mechanisms. For example, of course your inner ears are one of the key mechanisms to help you with your sense of balance. But you also receive input from your feet. And your vision. Anything that might interfere with those sensations can make you feel dizzy and off balance.

Pressure on your inner ear (due to CPAP) may cause you to feel dizzy. But so might an increase in blood to your feet. If your hands and feet feel as if they are tingling this might just be increased oxygen during the night. But that might lead to unusual sensations that make you feel off balance.

The good news as you can see from other posters, it should go away. The new situation (CPAP and better oxygen levels) will become your new norm.

Hope you have many more nights of good sleep!

For all users experiencing dizziness after using a CPAP, this is for you.
Around 8 months ago I was seen for hypertension. Before that I never had any problem with dizziness, not even with my high blood pressure. At my doctors recommendation, I agreed to the sleep study, and that’s where the story begins. The second study consisted of actually using the CPAP. The very next morning I was not able to drive home. My head felt foggy and dizzy. This got worse over the next few months. I was constantly told it’s because I am not use it and dizziness is not a symptom. This is total bullshit. I suffered for months. On top of the meds that already made me dizzy, the CPAP made things 100% worse. Around 30 minutes to an hour after waking up, my head would feel like it was under pressure. Interestingly my doc sent me for every exam, from blood work to MRI. Everything has come back negative. And yet, the doc still would not take me off the CPAP. Remember what I initially said, the dizziness came the morning of my second sleep study. I recently took myself off the CPAP. It’s been three days and I am slowly feeling better. I know there are those out there that need To use a CPAP, but I don’t think it’s for everyone. CPAP seems to be the new wonder drug, but I believe it’s more of a scam than anything else. And one final note, the reason for the CPAP was to lower my blood pressure, it has not worked. Don’t be dumb like I was. Don’t wait 8 months and suffer before realizing it is the machine causing it. Good luck.
