Opus 360 Nasal Pillows Irritation

Post by Slartybartfast » Tue Oct 26, 2010 12:00 pm

Ok, I've finally got a gripe about my therapy that is beginning to get to me. I'm having persistent sores inside one nostril only from my nasal pillows. I've tried lubricating the offending pillow with Neosporin, Vick's, lanolin or nothing at all . Nothing works, and the pressure against the persistent sore is beginning to keep me awake. It's only in one nostril, in the lower outside corner where the nare dies into the upper lip.

I looked for the Medium and Small nasal pillows that came with my mask, but it appears I discarded them, thinking my mask was correctly sized.

Any recommendations?

I ususally switch to my nasal mask for a couple of days to allow the irritated area to heal.

Rolf

Edit: I do go for months at a time with no irritation.

Try a Swift LT. I tried the opus 360 and those pillows are bordering on nasal prongs as far as comfort goes.

I see the Swift LT is far more popular than the Opus, if what they post there is true, even though it is more expen$ive. The Opus is what they fitted me with at the sleep center, so I haven't tried anything else. And up until now, I've had no complaints. I thought the nose irritation would go away, but it hasn't.

Thanks for that.

I use Opus 360. For irritation I use a nasal lubricant. The brand I use is called Secaris and it is a clear lubricant and works well. Look in the pharmacy where they sell nasal sprays and saline rinses.

I put a little on the nare a a little on the pillow. This worked for me when I get irritation. Problem could also be that the pillows are too big. I use medium

Maybe you have the straps too tight! Every once in a while I overtighten mine and my nares get sore, so I refit the mask looser and the nose heals up. The Opus 360 is durable and quite comfortable when fitted correctly. If you are thinking Res-Med, the Swift FX, from what I can see is simular to the Opus, but the pillows are not as stiff so they may not hurt your nares.

I see it's sold as Rhinaris south of the border. Propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol. Should be very non-irritating.

Thanks for that. I'll give that a try, too.

I like Nozoil (sesame oil), but not sure if that is sold outside of Oz?

I am fairly new to this but I also have the Opus 360. I also have several other masks and regularly change out to another; even another nasal pillow just so it is pressing just a little bit different.

It seems to help quite a lot.
