BEST CPAP MASK?? (Problems with Nose mask?)
Re: BEST CPAP MASK?? (Problems with Nose mask?)
If I have a stuffy nose I will use "OCEAN NASAL SPRAY" and if I still have a stuffy nose at bedtime, I put on a Tan Breathe Right Strip and it works great with my Mirage Quattro full face, My pressure is set at 10cm and I don't use the ramp feature on my machine, I go for the high end of pressure right out of the gate--FA

Re: BEST CPAP MASK?? (Problems with Nose mask?)
I was having bridge blisters from full face masks and nose blisters from the nasal pillows, so I went to the total face mask. Take a look at it and see if you can handle it. If you can and you get a good seal, you are sores and blister-free. In my mind, the only difference I see in my mask (as compared to a total-mask) is that the seal is above my eyes instead of below my eyes.
Because of the great sleep I get from the mask, I less likely to yank people out of their car... but when I do, I have more energy and greater force!

So this disease is really for life? I wonder if my heart or lungs have been damaged by going without CPAP for years. I use the Phillips Respironics nose mask but can't get good results. I also have heart pounding and chest pains sometimes when waking up or even now when I'm typing. I think I'm going to try an OTC sleeping pill but maybe that will depress my breathing.

Roman Hokie wrote:Agreed. I was on Afrin Extra Strength (generic store brand) for over 2 years. Got my CPAP and quit cold turkey. It's physiologically (not mentally) addictive in nature. It's meant to clog the user up every 8-12 hours.
I went back on Afrin for 1 night after a month without. Mistake. Now I'm on Zyrtec (cetyrizine) 10ml a day and Nasonex.
I'm using nasal pillows (Swift II by ResMed) now and loving it. Event with a clogged nostril, over the course of the night, it pumps enough pressure to work really well. Actively pumping the pressure into each nostril as opposed to the nasal mask which relies on the wearer to inhale and get the air they need.
Still working through some abrasion issues with the pillows, but otherwise, I'm happier with them than with the Activa LT nasal mask.
As for breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth, that's fine if you're on a treadmill or pumping iron - not so much for sleeping. The nose is what God intended for breathing. The mouth is Plan B.
The lower frame part of the Activa presses against my upper lip. Do you have that problem ? That's why I like the Comfort Classic.
