DME sold 8 month old machine as new

Post by allend » Mon Oct 25, 2010 4:02 pm

What do you do in this case? It was 8 months old when I received it, according to Rescan. No wonder they don't want us to have card readers. To make it more complicated, I recently got a replacement machine from Resmed but I doubt that was new also. Perhaps, had I gotten a new machine the default setting for PS would have been correct and I wouldn't have gone through the horrible nights of sleep I had. I had the machine for 11 months before the Resmed Replacement came but if I was supposed to get a new machine, mandated by the insurance company, that will last longer like a new machine is supposed to last and the one I received could have had "lemon" type problems Where will the DME stand? They are going to piss ad moan but they can give my old one to someone else who might not figure out they got a used machine.

Also, could the DME be clueless and could the used machine have come from Resmed? When I first got the machine the RT at the DME removed the clinician's manual. Why would that be their if it didn't come from Resmed that way? Why would it be there if it was used? Can we trust Resmed to be honest?

What happens if I go to United Healthcare with this?

I'd first call up customer service at Resmed and see what they can do. Let them know about the 'bait and switch'. My S8 I bought last February developed a problem and I sent it back to the supplier under warranty. After three weeks I hadn't heard anything so I contacted the supplier. They told me Resmed were backordered on S8's (refurbished returns since they're not the current model?). In any case, they wanted the phone number of the supplier. The same day I got an email from the supplier, letting me know that Resmed was going to exchange the S8 for a new S9. And they agreed to swap out the H4i humidifer for an H5i humdifier. It'll be here via UPS on Wednesday.

From my one and only experience with Resmed, They're fine by me. Maybe they'll raise a stink with your supplier.

I would also check to see if in fact they're saying that the machine had a lot of hours already on it, or maybe just that it could have been sitting on the shelf for a long time, but not necessarily been 'used'.

Ayup, Julie, that was my first thought as well. The Resmed S8 serial numbers contain the month and year of manufacture. The total hours on them can NOT be changed. You can erase the hours that you have used it, BUT the total hours of use since it was first turned on remain. How many hours of use were on it when you received it? You would expect roughly 2000 hours if used 8 months. 30 nights in a month x 8 hours a night x 8 months.
