Humidifier Tank Replacement

Post by ZQuest » Sun Oct 24, 2010 8:15 am

Hello:

Just a couple of questions for those that use humidifiers on their machine's..

How often do you replace the Humidifier Tank?

Do you recomend having a backup tank? I have not had any issues with my equipment after approx 6 month's on the machine,i'm just wondering if replacement is on a schedule basis as with the rest of the consumable's or when there is an issue with it.I do a regular weekly cleaning of the tank and i haven't seen any traces of mold or anything else unusual...I believe that my insurance cover the replacement for one every 6 month's. Should i just get it as a back up ? I'm strong believer in backup's but i just can't see much that could go wrong with a H/Tank unless is drop.Your opinion is greatly value..

Regards: Phil

As a rule, you should have a backup (or two) of each and every part of your therapy system. Most insurances will replace on a schedule or when a problem arises. Although when a problem arises takes the longest. You just can't predict everything.

So it's your call. This is "Just My Meaningless Opinion" (JMMO).

For the past three years my machine was a Respironics M Series Bi Pap Auto. I had heard horror stories about humi tanks leaking and ruining these machines. Being self insured because I told my provider to shove the base machine they tried to stick me with I acquired a second new in box machine and an extra humidifier tank just in case. I also followed advice on this forum to always use Distilled water and to not take the tank apart, and never travel with any water in the tank. I never did need my backup machine now sold on cpap auction, or my extra tank. It did provide a lot of peace of mind because I don't believe that I could sleep one night without my equipment. The old machine is now my backup and the tank still seals and looks like new. I also have never replaced my hose, but I do air dry it every day. Regards
