C-Flex setting?

Post by adksleepygal » Wed Oct 20, 2010 3:56 pm

What is the C-Flex setting all about? I am adjusting and new to this but the RT I spoke with said I might need a change in C-Flex setting so it was just done remotely as well as an increase of the ramp time. She is calling me tomorrow to see how I did with this but I do not know what all this means. My complaint is that I feel like I am choking when I try to breathe - exhale - and she said this would help. I do not even understand how this is being done from 50 miles away but she said it was. There is some kind of thing attached to the machine with a little antenna and she said its recording stuff - not really sure what this means - sounds like "Big Brother".
Does anyone know about any of this? Thanks!

CFLEX is an exhale relief setting... it's measured in 1, 2, or 3 with 3 being the most and 1 being the least.

If you 'search' here on the forum, you should find the Clinical Menu for your machine, and that explains everything, plus will let you adjust all the settings you want. C-flex (or EPR on some machines) is for exhale relief, and there are about 3 settings (hi, lo & med.) which you should be able to set yourself even without the menu - did you not get any literature at all with the machine?

Yes, what cflame said. And, yes, someone is monitoring your machine, probably the DME, who is measuring your therapy and/or your compliance.

adksleepygal, what pressure were you prescribed?

As a side note, for other readers who might be wondering about how C-Flex and EPR work, and what's the difference between those two types of pressure reduction when breathing out...

Although that topic was about C-Flex in a Respironics machine, my replies in that thread also talk about EPR used by ResMed machines.
