Presuming you are starting from a non-ideal weight (let's say obese on the BMI scale; leaving aside for the moment the relevance of the BMI scale to any one individual), and you lose weight - at what point would you wonder whether a new sleep study was warranted and/or wonder whether your settings would need to change?
I personally have an APAP and so I *think* my settings will adjust automatically if my needs change. But I am curious.
I am currently down about 7% of my initial (highest) weight. That's 16 lbs. If you were me, or even if you were you , when would you start to wonder if your settings changed?

More would depend on how you feel and you AHI. You have the data to decide for yourself.MoneyGal wrote:Presuming you are starting from a non-ideal weight (let's say obese on the BMI scale; leaving aside for the moment the relevance of the BMI scale to any one individual), and you lose weight - at what point would you wonder whether a new sleep study was warranted and/or wonder whether your settings would need to change?

My sleep doc said 40 pounds. Not sure why that particular number but that's what they said.

I lost 20 lbs and a re-titration reduced my pressure from 14/11 to 9/5 w/0 AHI @ the lab.
He tells me that if I lose another 15, I can probably kiss the machine goodnight.
He also said I was Classic OSA patient and I have no other breathing issues like COPD,
etc.
Color me happy

If you are able to do that, more power to you!lktnky wrote:I lost 20 lbs and a re-titration reduced my pressure from 14/11 to 9/5 w/0 AHI @ the lab.

As you may know, MoneyGal, getting down to a normal weight does not preclude most people from having apnea. Darn!

Re: How much weight loss before new sleep study?
APAPs adjust as needed to help maintain normal breathing patterns. My pressure varies qujite a bit from night to night given my congestion issues. I view the median (50% above, 50% below) and 95thcentile to watch trends. Been more congested lately and my median is up a bit. You have the equipment to determne when things have improved enough to warrant a PSG to see if you no longer qualify as having OSA. As Kenny said, some won't be able to abadon equipment regardless of how much wt they lose.
