Finding a GOOD oximeter with memory
Finding a GOOD oximeter with memory
I have been doing some research on buying a werist or handheld oximeter with memory. I read through about 10.000 posts in this forum and became even more confused. Most like the CMS monitosr. But I did find a few posts where the accuracy was horrible. Out by 6 points. I have read that units with FDA approval have to be within 2%+- from 80 to 99> I want a unit that is accurate. Obviously a medical grade monitor is out of the question. I also would like one with a rubber (or latex) finger sensor. Anything out there for under $300?? Amazon has a nice looking unit by Choicemedd but I cannot find anyone who has used this unit.
Thanks
Bob
Thanks

To gleen info from any source with many giving info. You have to avg what people are saying, always some will be more likely to find fault with a item, sometimes it's a untrained user or a unrealistic expectation, plus people that feel they have been burned speak the loudest. Nothing is perfect, weight cost vs benefit, make a choice based on your needs, tempered by what others express by the ave results.
I like mine for the reasons I have stated on the forum, I got it from Cooper Medical, was treated fairly. If I had bought it from a E-BAY source I would worry more. Saving a few bucks up front didn't make sense to me, I wanted a known product and somebody to be there if needed. The 50E stays on for me has no wire to come loose, but is probably non-repairable, the others are also probably non-repairable. (Cost Wise) All things are repairable if you don't add in the cost to repair things, there comes a place replacement is cheaper. Jim

Re: Finding a GOOD oximeter with memory
In order for any of these units to be sold in the US, they have to be FDA approved. They're classified as medical devices, just like a fever thermometer or a blood glucose meter. Someone a while back posted an image of the 510(k) approval letter from the FDA for the CMS 50E in response to someone bringing up that question.
My avatar image is data recorded by my CMS 50E from a recent overnight session while using CPAP.

Re: Finding a GOOD oximeter with memory
The 50F (wrist model) has the rubber/latex finger sensor, which is the main reason I went with it over the 50E. I did a comparison between this and the medical grade model my DME uses and found the results in line. I also took copies of my reports to my last doctor's visit -- my doctor agreed that she would accept results from my monitor if I felt it necessary to let her know of a problem.cortez356 wrote:I also would like one with a rubber (or latex) finger sensor. Re: Finding a GOOD oximeter with memory
I recently went with the CMS-50E (the finger tip model). It sells for around $ 120-140. This model (and the CMS-50F as well as several other CMS models) are FDA approved to be within 2%+- (it's printed on the literature that comes with the device).cortez356 wrote:I have been doing some research on buying a werist or handheld oximeter with memory. To respond to your question about accuracy, I believe I can address that. I have noticed that where you put your finger on the sensor can vary the SpO2 results by a few points. My guess is that those complaining haven't been putting the sensor in the right spot (for example, the cuticle, or the tip of the nail won't give good results). Mine regularly shows 98%, same exactly as my Dr. Office does. The software and reporting (while initially confusing) is actually quite good, and can easily be compared with the ResMed or Respironics software to show your Desats during apnea events.
I've been impressed with it so far (3 days). I was stunned to see my Desats exposed so clearly (~75 % SpO2 for over a minute).
You won't go wrong with either of the CMS-50E, or the CMS-50F.

Finding a good U.S supplier for the CMS 50 E
I'm looking for a trustworthy U.S supplier to buy a CMS 50 E from. John mentioned pulseoximeteronline.com. Has anyone made purchases from pulseoximeteronline.com, and do you recommend them? If no, do you have a recommendation?
thanks

Re: Finding a GOOD oximeter with memory
I dunno about the CMS 50E, it keeps falling off during the night. I tape it on and it's a bit clunky. There has got to be a better way. Is it possible to get wrist model with a finger sensor that can be taped to hold on but not so difficult to tape?

Like this? This is a CMS-50F

Is that a spring loaded clip on the finger probe or does it slip over the finger? The latter would be easier to tape. When you tape a spring loaded clip shut it hurts. Thanks.
Re: Finding a GOOD oximeter with memory
I ordered the 50F from China. $125.00 freight included. Thanks for all the help.

I ordered mine from http://www.clinicalguard.com/oximeters- ... -p-89.html and it arrived within a couple of days. No complaints, and it was the cheapest price at the time.
RE: the possibility of the unit falling off during the night, I've worn mine half a dozen times, and put it on my 90 year old father one night. Never had it fall off, though my Dad had a couple of loss of signals during the night when he moved around. The pressure from the device was not excessive. I could feel it until I went to sleep, and I felt it when I woke up, but it didn't bother me while I slept.
I've also lent it to two friends who reported good results and no complaints wearing it overnight.

I absolutely would not buy from them. I purchased the CMS50E from them last week and paid extra for UPS shipping so I would get it in 3 days. They shipped it regular US postal Service instead. It's now 7 days later & I have not received the package. Their web site only provides an e-mail address for customer service and states they answer emails within 24 hours. I have sent an email everyday for 7 days and have not received any response from them.
I filed a BBB complaint yesterday, checked the BBB web site & they have an F rating. Will be filing a complaint w/ my credit card company tomorrow & plan to refuse the package delivery if it ever shows up.
I will never by anything from them again.
Update: While doing research for my complaint against this company I have discovered there address is a UPS store mailbox. At this point I think http://www.pulseoximeteronline.com is a fraudulent company.

Re: Finding a GOOD oximeter with memory
i have never received the unit I ordered. It was coming from China from door2doorshop.com. They must have addressed it wrong and USPS would not deliver. They do not speak much English and I sure hope payapal will credit me with the $125.00 Buyer beware!
