Need help finding a mask that fits

Post by 626sleep » Mon Oct 18, 2010 5:26 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to cpaptalk and I'd love to hear everyone's advice on what the best way is to find the proper fit for a mask. I wish I could try them on before purchasing them since I'm having trouble finding one that fit's comfortably on my face. Can anyone recommend the best way to find the right mask online besides trial and error? Thanks for all your help!

I think trial and error is the only thing that really works. If you are a mouth breather you need either a chin strap to hold your mouth shut or a full face mask. There are many options. I started with the full face but the nasal pillows are so much more comfortable once you get used to them. The nasal is also a nice option. I started with a drawer full and now I have narrowed it down to a few favorites.

You DEFINITELY can try before you buy if you get your masks from a brick and morter DME. You are entitled to a 30 day trial with any mask bought from them. They can return used masks to the mfg for credit.

If you buy on line, some internet companies offer return insurance....cpap.com does.

Some manufacturers post or provide sizing guides. Just today I emailed a company that sells pap supplies because it is the only one that sells Legends masks - one of the few that fits under the chin. The wonderful customer service person actually sketched out the sizing guide for me with the measurements penciled in.

Thanks for the input so far, so it sounds like I should talk to my local DME's to see what they can do, does this mean that if I buy a mask online that it wouldn't have the same 30 day guarantee? Thanks again for everyone's help on this topic.
