First night... cpap set to wrong pressure
Today, a PR System One REMstar DS150HS CPAP Machine was delivered to my house. The guy went over the basics with me, had me sign a bunch paperwork, and he was on his way. Before leaving, he made the remark that my machine was set to an unusually low pressure.
I tried it on while watching TV, and noticed that the pressure setting was set for 5cm. The sleep center sent me a letter which said that my prescription is for 8cm. Apparently, there has been some sort of mistake. I thought at first that maybe 5cm was the "ramp" pressure, but this is not the case. Ramp pressure is 4cm, which ramps up to 5cm after 15 minutes.
I would prefer to avoid the hassle of having to go back to the doctor or to have somebody come back to my house to set it up properly. I'd rather just set the pressure myself, but it doesn't seem to be user-adjustable. A Google search led me to a few pages with instructions on how to adjust pressure on other models, but I've had no luck with this one. This thing has an SD card in it, so I'm assuming that a computer is needed to adjust the pressure.
Another reason I'd like to know how to do this is that I'm a hardcore libertarian nutjob . If it were legal for me to simply buy a cpap machine myself and avoid all the sleep study crap, I would have. It would have cost me $400 out of pocket, rather than the several thousand dollars my insurance company had to shell out for multiple sleep studies and several doctor appointments. I'm confident that I could have figured out the proper pressure myself. As it stands now, I had to pay almost $300 in co-pays to get to this point anyway!

Thanks for your help, Gary!
Now for another question....
Is it *really* unsafe to adjust the pressure, or is it just a protectionist measure to keep sleep study workers employed? What's the worst that can happen if I adjust mine to, say, 10cm?

Problem is that a DS150 doesn't show AHI or report it. It doesn't even have CFLEX.

There is mention of an sd card so it should report (newer Model)

Actually, mine does have c-flex. It's one of the newest models, according to the tech who brought it by today. I may have posted the wrong model number in my initial post. I'm not sure what all the other mumbo-jumbo means just yet; I'll have to learn all that stuff.
Re: First night... cpap set to wrong pressure
If what you have is truly a DS150, the data card will record compliance data only--NO efficacy data. See https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... chine.html
According to those specs, it has no C-Flex either.
I would call tomorrow and complain--tell them the machine was set incorrectly and you want to return it anyway for a data capable machine.

Pickle.....
First of all....being a Libertarian doesn't make you a "nutjob". Libertarians simply prefer "liberty"....and they take responsibility for their own actions.
Second....I urge you to carefully consider what Janknitz just said......because it's correct. I suggest that you push HARD for the same machine Janknitz is using. Your chances of success go WAY, WAY up if you have a machine that allows you to use full data reporting software. It's the only way you know if your therapy is efective or not. Full data software allows you to do a pretty good "home titration"....every niight if you want to do so. The data allows you to tweak the pressure settings....so that you achieve the most effective treatment....with the greatest comfort.
Finally, you have a window of opportunity....you have a valid complaint (pressure set incorrectly). Take the machine back to them. Tell 'em you are returning the machine....and that you want a PR-1 Auto with AFLEX....or you're walking......and mean it! If they want your business, they'll give you what you want. If they don't, RUN!
