Yes do get the shot. Last year I got pneumonia and also my neighbour died during December due to the flu, I still miss his cheerful "Bonjour!" .

I got my flu shot (have been getting it for 20 years now). I have also had a pneumonia shot and a booster for that 3 years ago.

If I get the flu it is always very mild. I had pneumonia when I was 6 years old (that was a lot of years ago!) but not again-----so far!

You bet!!! Already got mine. I am a hospital volunteer and I work the flu shot clinic every year. My granddaughter had H1N1 last October and was REALLY sick, took her a long time to get her body back to normal.

I got the 3-in-1 flu shot on Thursday. I had a very sore arm for two days, but the friend who went with me, and got his at the same time, had no soreness whatsoever. I'm so glad that it is readily available this year.

Last year I wanted to get the H1N1 vaccine but they were only doing kids up to age 18 in my area. On Nov 12 I came down with a bad case of H1N1. I am diabetic and it was very serious but my husband took good care of me at home and I recovered.

This year I got the 3 in 1 flu shot AND the pneumonia shot (I've had pneumonia twice). I am hoping NOT to get sick this winter!

Regards to all,

Jersey Girl

I am afraid of the flu shots. I have had one years ago and got the flu. My brother got the flu shot 3 years ago and was sick all winter. Now he gets a flu shot and comes down for a visit so I can take care of him while he is sick. He is sick every time he takes the shot. I am not looking forward to his visit this year.

I get a flu shot every year. I did notice that my AHI went up a little for a few days afterward -- from 0.x to 1.x -- but it has since dropped. No idea if there is any causal link between the two. It may have more to do with skipping the gym for a couple of days after the flu shot, or with getting my monthly allergy shots a few days after the flu shot and skipping the gym again after the allergy shots.

BTW, don't exercise on the same day you get flu, pneumonia, or allergy shots, as the increased blood flow can cause "an immune response," as my allergy doc and his nurses put it. My worst winter in a long time was about 5 years ago, when I got both flu and pneumonia shots at the same time and then worked out in the evening. Don't make that mistake.

I am upset because my shot did not hurt. I figure, "No pain, no gain".

I got mine this morning!! @Stormynights.... years ago, they used a live virus, but today it is a dead virus. The shot CANNOT give you the flu. Remember it is only 80% effective so some folks will still get sick; however, they most likely won't be as sick as they would have been had they not gotten the shot.

I'm surprised that they didn't consider you in the "High Risk" group since you are Diabetic, and give you the shot.

I got mine last week. Had no problem getting at my convenience.

But the vaccine for kids is still in extremely short supply in my area and the are only vaccinating "High Risk" kids.

I've decided to go with the flu shot for the first time this year.
Mainly because I do not want to deal with CPAP and the flu.

I always get the flu shot and I keep the pneumonia shot up to date. After many years of being a nurse I recommend that each of you do the same.
You do not want the flu or pneumonia!!
We have enough problems without that. And there is no live virus in the flu shot.
I nor my husband ever have any reaction at all.
GOD BLESS YOU!

My brother-in-law died at 39 from complications of the flu. Since I visit over 20 people in nursing homes every month and one of my congregations requires me to personally hand every parish member their communion elements every month, you can bet I get the shot - for their protection as much as my own.
