Any tricks to keeping PR S1 filters from "jumping" out???
Any tricks to keeping PR S1 filters from "jumping" out???
I keep finding my white paper filter and the foam filter lying behind my machine, not IN it where they belong. The paper filters are a bit stiff, the place where they go is snug, and they pop out, pushing the foam filter out too. Then I sit and wonder how many days I've had unfiltered air--I'm just not in the habit of checking it every night, but I guess I'll have to start.
So is there a trick to keeping the filters where they belong???? They are so small to begin with that I'd hate to do anything that might block them even a little, but this is driving me nuts!
Too bad they didn't design some little tabs to hold them in place--it wouldn't have been that hard!
Someday, perhaps, CPAP machine manufacturers will ask us our opinions instead of deciding for us what we need!

There was recently a discussion about the problem here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=56210. I don't have the same machine, but apparently there are now filters without tabs that do stay in place. I hope that information helps!

Yes. Cut the tab off. Use tweezers when you need to pull the old filter out.

Re: Any tricks to keeping PR S1 filters from "jumping" out???
I have started cutting the tab off the white one as well for this machine. It works well. Using tweezers to get the white one out is a great idea that I had not thought. This is a good idea because with the tab cut off it is a struggle. Thanks for that suggestions!
I did email Philips Respironics about the problem. They replied, saying they knew of the problem but had no solution. They said it happens only rarely!
I reminded them that they made a filter cap for the M Series. It is called the "whisper cap" because it was also supposed to deaden the sound of the machine some as well. I bought one but they were very awkward to put on and take off and stuck out so far at the back that it made packing the machine for travel a nuisance. They did not deaden the sound of the machine that I noticed but then I have no trouble with noise.
On the earlier Classic Respironics machines they had a big filter cap as well. The later Classics had a nice neat filter cap.
They need to look back on past machines when they come out with a new one and incorporate some of the better ideas from them!

Thanks, I hadn't seen the other thread. It is the dumb tab that makes it difficult to seat the filters properly, so when I get home tonight I'll cut the darn thing off.

I had the same problem. What I do is fold the tab over so that it is not any higher than the top and bite down on it to make a good crease. I haven't had one come out since.
Thank you,

About halfway down this thread is a suggestion by djr1215 to insert the white filter with the tab on the bottom. I haven't had trouble since.DreamOn wrote:There was recently a discussion about the problem here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=56210.

Tab on the bottom works for me too. Used to pop out the other way.

Re: Any tricks to keeping PR S1 filters from "jumping" out???
I just bought these new filters from Respironics directly which replace the old "tab" filters for The PR System 1. I have a BIPAP machine.
They are more quite, fit nicer and I feel like I sleep better. I paid through the nose for them Like $5.99 per filter. Does anyone know any where else to get these filters? I only bought 2. TX.

Re: Any tricks to keeping PR S1 filters from "jumping" out???
For now, I am going to cut the tab off the dozen or so that I have and use them. I stock up when I am ordering mask parts, etc from cpap.com. I have also bought some on EBay and from other online suppliers.
Let us know if the new tabless ones work better. I'd be interested in knowing. I have allergies and, if these are better than the tabbed ones, it MAY be worth the cost.

Ah, I had that problem too! Didn't think about cutting the tab off! DUH!!
Re: Any tricks to keeping PR S1 filters from "jumping" out???
I used to have one of these machines and I cut tabs off the filter to try to keep them in. I still found them on the floor. Then I decided to test filter retention based on a hunch. I coughed into the mask and the filters shot out rather quickly. No matter how light the cough, they still dislodged and flew under the nightstand. If I had kept the machine, I would have applied tape to the edges in an attempt to keep them attached. Oh well, I now have a different machine and it came with a filter cover.
