So I've been tracking my first three nights on this machine and find that I have more centrals then I did in my sleep study.
I am still waiting to get the reports from the sleep clinic/hospital where I had my sleep study done. They're a bit behind on processing requests for records.
But I remember that I had only 3 OSA and 2 Centrals in my sleep study and some 200+ Hypopnea's.
Now I know I have CSA's since my wife has witnessed them before, my chest just stops moving for some time and then I suck in big, sometimes she would shake me.
my AHI was 24 or so at the sleep study, since starting on CPAP it's around 2.9 which is good. Except almost all of those have been centrals. so I'm going from 2 centrals in my sleep study to about 15 now. I know at least one was real because again my wife said she heard the air pressure rising and going in but I wasn't breathing until I finally sucked in a deep breath.
So are these real Centrals? Mis recognized or what? IF they are real why the increase all of a sudden?

Re: Respironics System One reliable at recording centrals?
Hi Dwolf, your machine is probably correctly recording the centrals. However even people without sleep apnea can experience centrals when falling asleep. And people starting cpap therapy can experience more. Have a look at this thread

Give it some time to see if they go away!

Re: Respironics System One reliable at recording centrals?
I hope he's not in the same boat as I am. It's been 9 months and my centrals have NOT "gone away", and I was the same - no significant centrals in the sleep study, mostly obstructive, with some hypopenas. I've been adjusting the pressure up and down to see what's the best, and so far I can keep the centrals down to 2-3, but rarely lower, keeping my overall AHI around 3+. I've been wondering if the PR1 doesn't just score some of the centrals wrong, but based upon the data it sure does NOT look like it (long pause, then deep breath). At least it hasn't significantly caused major drowsiness issues during the day (my blood pressure medicine, now that was an issue).snnnark wrote:Give it some time to see if they go away!
Love the response from my (hospital) sleep lab: Just increase your pressure 2 cm and try it for a month and let us know. Completely ignoring the "central" issue
Due for a sleep study in less than 2 months, so I'll just wait for that and hope we can't figure out what's going on.
