Just got back from DME. Had a good experience.

Post by DWolf » Mon Oct 11, 2010 11:36 am

Was diagnosed a few weeks back, went last monday for my titration and picked up my equipment today.

I was expecting a terrible time and was anxious all week. Anxiety disorder will do that to you. In reality though it all went smoothly and I didn't even need my list of questions that I had written down.

I spent the greater part of the past few weeks reading the forums, researching sleep apnea and the equipment for CPAP. I knew I wanted a data capable machine and I needed C-Flex/EPR/SmartFlex from the titration at least to get used to using CPAP because I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep because I couldn't exhale easy.

So I knew I wanted either the S9, Intellipap w/SmartFlex or the REMstar Pro.

I went in and they had a REMstar Auto Pro with A-Flex for me. No argueing, no pushing that was what they had and I was pleased. Between the three top data machines I wasn't all that picky, none of them had really anything better than the other that I felt I needed. The mask was the same one I used in titration that I liked so I kept with that. It's the Opus. My mask replacement is every 3 months so I will see about getting a full face mask then in case of stuffy noses.

I haven't used the machine yet, I get to do that tonight but I am looking forward to it. I slept fairly well with CPAP during my titration, more so once the C-Flex was turned on. I don't recall waking up at all until morning once it was on and I felt amazing all day. I had so much energy and the days after I was just exhausted. So here's hoping to some restful sleep tonight and in the days to come.

Best of luck for a good, sound night's sleep. And here's hoping that you'll be one of those ducks taking to water!

Thank you very much. I am hoping too. Much less stressed now that I have it set up and in place. Just need to put something together for hose management.

I noticed you're in Buffalo Robysue. I grew up there and spent the better part of my 30 years there. Just moved away a year and a half ago.

We're a really rare kind of creature here in Buffalo---moved here from out of state with no nearby relatives for a JOB! back in 97.

Really like it here too. Weather's an improvement over Central Illinois. [And I'm NOT joking!]

Yes we are, I miss the area and even the weather (especially the mild summers!). At least there they know how to handle snow. Where I am now they closed school for almost a week because of 2 inches of snow. I just rolled my eyes all week when people talked about how bad it was outside.

It's wonderful that you educated yourself so that you went into the DME knowing what you wanted. You might have had the same outcome if you did not, but you can be confident that your DME is providing what you need--I think that's important to have that confidence.
