OT Change is good

Post by carbonman » Sun Oct 10, 2010 5:20 pm

Summer has lingered longer than normal this year.
It is not going to be a real colorful display due to the lack of moisture.
Image
I have been riding Cherry Ck alot in the past month.
Yesterday, Doug and I rode the Cherryck bike path from the REI store at
the confluence and end of Cherry ck down to Parker.
Image

It was a glorious sunny day....a bit windy w/a fall chill in the air.
The first 4miles are in the protected section until you get out of lower downtown.
Image
The signs of summer and the coming fall are mingled together.
Image
If you didn't know it, you can hardly tell you were in the heart of downtown.
Image
Half way to Parker, we cruise around Cherry Ck reservoir.
The boat launch was deserted on this windy day.

Termination dust on the Mt. Evans Massive.

I hate to feel the warm weather going away.
We stopped for a cool gatoraid.
But, at 55F it just doesn't taste the same as when it is 92F.

I rode w/partial winter gear today.
Cold, rainy. Got wet before the ride ended.
The symphony of leaves is tuning up.

So as the seasons go, so goes life.
Like it not, the only thing that is for sure is change.
It's good to live where the seasons usher the change upon us.

Hi Carbonman

The ride looked very inviting from your photos, so I thought I would take it - via multimap, as I have done with many of the youthful bike trips I did in England.

But I couldn't find the bike trail.

Nor could I find it from the centre of Parker (According to Multimap).

Here is what I found -

Cherry Creek Drive -

http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=cherry ... CO%2080134

Cherry Creek Court -

http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=cherry ... CO%2080138

Parker -

http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=cherry ... rker,%20CO

But it doesn't look like I was anywhere near the trail you were on, but I know it has to start somewhere near the centre of Parker.

Can you give me a starting point ?

cheers

I have never worked w/Bing maps.
I use Googlemaps.

This is the southern most point of our ride.
We turned east onto the Sulphur Gulch trail to visit a friend.
From here you can follow trail north to the confluence of Cherry Ck and the S. Platte river,
the start of our ride. The trail is marked all the way. If you loose it, remember,
just follow the creek. There is a tricky crossing at Arapahoe Rd., where the trail is not completed.
It comes out on the south end of Cherry Ck reservoir.

Have a great ride.
I'm headed over to Glenwood Springs today to ride the canyon.
I'll see you on the road.

gatoraid tastes even better when its 115F

Its the best time of the year to ride here. I'm riding whenever i can now its 75F and sunny

Im not looking forward to the dark freezing cold mornings and having to put on so many layers of clothes.
I'm always cold on starting out and then ending up sweating like a champ half way into the ride

Nice photos

Dear Carbonman,

Love your photos. What state are you in?

Here in New Jersey the fall colors are just starting and the oranges and reds are beginning to come out. I love the spring and summer. I'm not a winter girl because I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark - feel like a mole during the winter!

Wishing you happy trails,

Jersey Girl

Amen, brother! I think I'll just stick to the 100Fs and take you word for the 115Fs.

Yea, that layering thing is tough. Cold when you start is always the best,
then when you warm up you don't need to stop to take it off.....
it's not an exact science. I continue to practice.

Carbonman when I look at your photos I can smell the leaves.
I love that smell.
So relaxing.
Thanks

Hi Carbonman

Thanks Carbonman, you got me nicely pointed un the right direction. One of my links did cover part of the trail, but it was not marked as such on Multimap.

I will try the whole trail by Multimap first (I love the birds-eye view), and your journey with the Google link you gave me, although I have not been able to get street view yet, but I have only tried out in the bush, not in the City.

The US is much better covered by Multimap and Google than is Australia and Europe.

cheers

Mars
