Hi,
Have any of you got recommendations for a FFM that might fit a slim face? Unless I _really_ tighten down the mask to the point of being painful, I wind up with leaks at the corners of my mouth. I know my S9 compensates for the leaks, but they wake me up.
So far I've tried the large & small size ResMed liberty hybrid (really like the design, wish I could get the fit I want), the ResMed mirage quattro, and the Fisher & Paykel Forma.
In a fit of frustration I surfed the web for good prices on the Hans Rudolph 7600 V2 and the RespCare hybrid since my DME would have to special order them for me and I wouldn't be able to swap these for something else. They'd be mine. ...so I cut out the middle man & mark up. These should arrive in a week...
Are there other options I'm missing? Some kind of extra shim/seal that I could use? Having more than a passing acquaintance with casting silicone I've been thinking...
Maybe I just need to try nasal masks and put up with a leaky FFM when my sinuses are acting up?
Thanks,
--Mike
Mask for a slim face?

Mack's earplugs is what some people use. They form them to the size/shape that they need.

Mike,
I had the same problem and suffered through three years before our friend at http://padacheek.com/PAC_Maskliners.html invented the solution. The material she uses is soft and very dense. It fills that gap at the corners of the mouth and allows me to actually roll over to my side without springing a leak, something I could never do before. I haven't tried them with a FFM yet, as I gave up on those a long time ago, but soon I'm going to give a FFM another try. Pick out your least painful mask and send her a note to see if she can custom make a liner for the mask you choose. She is still working on a few, but I know she has the Mirage SoftGel perfected.

Re: Mask for a slim face?
I just received my Hybrid today.
I am surprised the cushion part is so much narrower than the small Quattro.
I tried on all three sizes of cushions, and found the small way too narrow--It's a toss-up between the medium and the large. . .
Medium feels more like the extra small quattro--but I like it way more--so far.
I'm going to try sleeping with it tonight. Update tomorrow.

Re: Mask for a slim face?
Try the original RespCare Hybrid Universal...comes with 3 sizes of oral cushion & 3 sizes of pillows that can be set to 2 heights. I have both and can't make the Liberty stop leaking...seems if one fits well, the other doesn't.
Hey Froggie, wish ya good sleep tonight with the Hybrid!

Re: Mask for a slim face?
Just following up on my own post in the event that someone else goes looking through the forum for this kind of stuff...
I've now tried the RespCare Hybrid, the Hans Rudolph 7600 V2, the Mirage Swift LT and the Swift FX.
The RespCare hybrid fits me a lot better than the ResMed Liberty. I think its because the frame doesn't have a little plastic reinforcing tab between the nasal pillows that the ResMed Liberty has. The RespCare hybrid has a bit more flex in this area as a result so I can pull the mask tight at the corners of my mouth without causing pain right under nose.
The Han Rudolph was an interesting experiment. I wanted to try a FF mask that didn't have the forehead support so I could have a clear field of vision. Well, this didn't work out so well for me. Its not unusable, but I do get enough leakage (as I move around) at the bridge of the nose that it wouldn't be my first choice. Since I own it I'll keep it around as a backup. Most of a good night's sleep is better than none at all.
I tried two nasal pillows too. Personally, I found the Swift FX just way too light for my taste. I fully acknowledge that I'm weird though. I'd been wearing respirators for years before having to use xPAP so this was just too light for me to be comfortable with. I REALLY liked the Swift LT. I'm having trouble getting use to it though. I've discovered that it doesn't mix well with my rather mild allergies. Even with claratin twice a day (doctor said so) I've got enough nasal drip that I wind up waking up having to cough to clear the crud, but with my mouth taped that is a little difficult. I guess with a FFM I just clear it without ever waking. ? I'm going to get back to the doctor and see what else I can try for the nasal drip.
If I can dry up the drip I'd consider using the Swift LT as my primary mask with the RespCare hybrid for when I've got a cold. As it is, the RespCare hybrid is the one for me for the moment.
...and since there is so much in the forum about bad DMEs, SleepQuest in Los Gatos CA has been GREAT. The RespCare hybrid and the Hans Rudolph are mask they don't supply, but they were quite understanding as I worked through trying these and they were interested in the feedback I had on them. Of course I did have to out-of-pocket the cost since they didn't have loaners, but I consider that only a minor inconvenience compared to what happens if I don't effectively deal with the sleep apnea. The folks at SleepQuest really do get that this is really about what works for me. Next week I take the SD card in for my first compliance check. They should be happy with the result. I'm on track for 100% with ~7.5hr/night of use on average.
