Home sleep testing

Post by debbie28 » Sat Oct 09, 2010 8:36 am

I haven't used my insurance for my cpap in years because I could never obtain a copy of my sleep test. Long story there. Anyway I'm hearing so much about these new machines and I hear that i can now get a home sleep study and my insurance will buy me a new machine. I buy my mask and accesories at http://resmedswiftfx.com but they don't sell machines. So my question is 2 parts. Are home tests safe? Where can I get one? And then where can I get a new machine. I hear a lot of good things about the s9 machine. Thanks for your help. This forum is really helping me and I've been a user for years!

There are accredited home sleep tests that are perfectly legitimate, ie. Watch Pat by Itamar (google it). Medicare and many insurers cover these. Kaiser does home testing exclusively.

The trick is finding a sleep doctor that uses home testing. That seems to be the big challenge. You might try contacting the accredited home testing device manufacturers and asking if they can refer you to a local sleep doctor who uses the device.

Hi Debbie,
The host of this forum is https://www.cpap.com where they sell all things related to cpap therapy.... machines, masks, accessories, and software. You can view a comparison of machines by sorting them according to type and manufacturer to get a clear picture of the features side by side. The S9 is a very good machine, but you will need to verify with your insurance company why at they will pay for and how much.

Best wishes for a successful study! Keep us posted on your progress. Once you have your equipment, please go the the User Control Panel in the top left and select your items from the pull down menus. Then be sure to select Text only for viewing.....not icons.
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

The S9 is actually FOUR different machines, three of which can be found at cpap.com.
Although the prices are rather close, the features are not. Their comparison info is great!
I have the Elite; my husband just got his Autoset--I'm so envious.
The DME tried to get us both into escapes--that is the basic model.
Others will tell you about them.
Resmed makes good machines-their marketing is another thing. . .
