I find when I wake up during the night, to go the bathroom, or drink water,
or else just wake up due to some sound, or changing position in bed, that I sometimes take a deep breath like a yawn.
Is this normal, or does it mean that somehow I'm not getting enough O2 during sleep?
FWIW this happened before CPAP treatment but is also happening since I strarted CPAP two months ago
(because naturally I wake up more often during the night due to the CPAP disruptions). So I don't think it's solely a side-effect of the CPAP treatment.
I;m guessiing that this is normal, because when someone awakens, I cam imagine that the brain suddenly needs
more O2, hence the yawn or deep inhale.
But nevertheless I thought I'ld ask just to be sure that yawning is normal during nighttine awakenings.
Is yawning during the night normal?

Re: Is yawning during the night normal?
I would imagine that it is pretty normal. I'm not sure if I do or not. (But then just ask my wife - she will tell you I am NOT normal. Something about needing to change my name to Abby Normal.
If you were not getting enough O2 you would wake up feeling as if you were smothering. This sounds much more of a normal deep breath yawn. As you note, it is probably a way your body found to get more O2 to get going if you need it.
In your shoes, I would not worry about it.
