When you do a study; the more you try to look at & the more you try to control-the less useful your results get. The sample of patients needs to be bigger & they need more interviewers. It gets very expensive. So researchers try keeping a specific focus. In reporting their findings these researchers used accepted standards in reporting the limitations of the study while also pointing to the need for more specific research on treatments. The medical behavior researchers can looks for ways to increase compliance, compliance can be redefined, engineers can make equipment that is easier to use and is more effective. But no one will be looking for anything better if they think it's working great. So....by raising questions and suggesting some direction for future research and development their reporting is responsible.
